Portal Beam room occupancy setup and installation

Complete the below Portal Beam setup and install steps to get room occupancy and telemetry data outcomes in Cisco Spaces.

  1. From the Cisco Spaces account, claim the Kontakt.io order.

    1. Log in to your Cisco Spaces account.

    2. From the upper-left corner, select the menu icon > IoT Services > Device Management.

    3. Select Onboard Devices > Floor Beacons > Next.

    4. Enter your Kontakt.io Order ID (it's case sensitive, be sure to enter it exactly as printed) > and select Add to Inventory.

    5. To verify the Kontakt.io devices were successfully claimed, from the Devices tab, select Floor Beacons > select Claimed Devices > from the Order ID column, verify the claimed devices are listed.

  2. Activate the Kontakt.io Plugin. You may need to contact your Cisco Spaces Account Manager to complete this task.

  3. Turn on and mount Portal Beam.

  4. Add Portal Beam to the Cisco Spaces account Location Topology (Rich Maps).

  5. Validate Portal Beam room occupancy outcomes.

Once you've completed the required setup steps and mounted a Portal Beam, you can validate its room occupancy and environmental telemetry data by following the below steps.

Requirements: 2 people, laptop with internet access, and access to Cisco Spaces Rich Maps.

Steps

Expected outcome

  1. Using Cisco Rich Maps, begin with the room empty; ensure that occupancy for the room is “0”.

  2. Have one person enter the room > wait for up to two minutes for the occupancy to change to “1”.

  3. Wait 15 seconds, then have the second person enter the room > wait for up of two minutes for the occupancy to change to “2”.

  4. Wait 15 seconds > have both people exit the room > wait for up to two minutes for the occupancy to change to “0”.

  5. Validate the sensor/temperature readings are accurate (e.g. temperature reading is not 0°C).

Room occupancy counts are accurate.
