The Kontakt.io Proximity Web Panel supports pre-defined presets that you can bulk apply to your Beacons (read how in Kontakt.io Proximity Web Panel - Configuring Beacons).
In this article we are going to look a little deeper in what these are and what they mean for your Beacons.
When you apply a preset to your Beacons, it will change the TX Power and Interval settings. In the case of the default Kontakt Beacon preset, the Proximity UUID is also set to f7826da6-4fa2-4e98-8024-bc5b71e0893e - the standard UUID for kontakt.io Beacons.

Kontakt.io Beacon preset (default)
In our tests the Kontakt.io Beacon preset gives you the best mix of battery life and positioning accuracy.
Transmission power
Tx power has a major impact on the Battery life of your Beacon. However, there is a trade-off, the lower the Battery life, the less range your Beacons will have. Look at our article Beacon Configuration Strategy Guide – Transmission Power for more information.
Advertising Interval
Your Beacons are constantly transmitting Advertising Packets that any in-range device can detect and use to identify the Beacon. The Interval, determines the millisecond wait between the transmission of each packet. The higher the interval, the less frequently packets are transmitted, and less energy is consequently used.
The trade-off is the granularity of the location information you can get from Beacon application. If your user is on the move and you are tracking their location using triangulation, you'll want to use a much shorter interval than if you are just identifying the range of a user from a gallery exhibit, for example.
You can read more about the importance of the Advertising Interval in our article Beacon Configuration Strategy Guide – Interval.
What is the right preset for your Beacons?
Well, it clearly depends on the your implementation. If you're not sure then we recommend sticking with the default Kontakt.io Beacon preset. If changing batteries more frequently isn't a practical issue for you, then you may want to up your TX power to get maximum range. If your Beacons only need to respond to immediate events (rather than near & far) then a lower Tx Power will probably do the job.
