Bulk configuration and synchronization

Bulk editing the configuration on more than one beacon at once is a two step process. First, you'll need to create the configuration on your Web panel, then apply the configuration to the beacons using our Kontakt.io management app available for iOS and Android.

In this tutorial you'll learn how to configure and sync these changes to multiple beacons at a time.

Create configuration in the WebPanel

If you need to create a single configuration for all your beacons, you can select them all using the checkbox next to the Choose Action menu. Afterwards, you can click on the green 'Bulk Edit' button on the right, or select the Bulk edit option from the drop down menu.

By default, you'll only see 50 beacons listed, but you can easily expand this up to 500 from the drop down menu on the far right:

NOTE It's also possible to create new configurations using our API /config/create endpoint.

Once you've made all configuration changes, click on the Save Changes button on the bottom right.

Syncing new configurations using Kontakt.io management app

Android

Now it is time for step two, using the Android administration app, log into your account and click on the menu button on the top left. From here, select the Bulk Configuration option, which indicates how many beacons are queued with a red number next to it.

Once you're ready to start syncing the new configurations, click the Start Bulk Configuration button at the bottom.

Your device will then start looking for the queued beacons and synchronize the new configurations. Please make sure these are in close proximity to your device.

Once the beacons are found, the synchronization process will begin and automatically process all beacons in queue.

You'll know the new configuration was successfully applied when the status changes to Done.

The synchronization process may involve the following status, it's important to note the difference:

In progress: configuration is being applied.

Pending: indicates the beacon is in queue and awaiting synchronization.

Done: beacon was successfully configured.

Error messages may include the following:

Weak signal: either the device is not close enough to the beacon or it's unable to establish communication; please make sure there's some room between the beacons themselves or try to isolate each while configuration is being applied.

Failed: the configuration was not applied to the beacon; please try again.

Given the wide amount of Android devices out there, including the different bluetooth antennas on them, there could be a few that have a hard time establishing a connection. If you encounter multiple errors while syncing, please try a different device. If the you're still unable to successfully sync new configurations, please  feel free to submit a support ticket.

iOS

Using the iOS administration app, log into your account and click on 'Bulk'.

Make sure your beacons are in range of your device and once you are ready click the 'Start bulk management' button.

Your device will then start looking for the queued beacons and synchronize the new configurations.

Once the beacons are found, the synchronization process will begin and automatically process all beacons in queue.

As each configuration is applied to the beacons, they will display the Operation Complete message. The top bar will show the progress of the configuration, indicating how many successful or failed configurations and if there are any offline devices.

The synchronization process may involve the following status, it's important to note the difference:

Connecting: the connection from the device to the beacon is being stablished.

Connected: It indicates the beacon is in queue and awaiting synchronization.

Writing configuration: indicates that the connection was successful and the configuration is being applied.

Operation completed: beacon was successfully configured.

Error messages may include the following:

Out of Range: either the device is not close enough to the beacon or it's unable to establish communication; please make sure there's some room between the beacons themselves or try to isolate each while configuration is being applied.
