Please note that your Gateway doesn't include batteries, so it needs to be plugged to a power source at all times.
Configuring GW-16 Gateways using the Android and iOS admin apps.
If your Gateway has firmware 1.3.3 or above, it is possible to do the initial setup, or change its configuration using the Android and/or iOS administration apps.

Connect the Gateway to your computer
To connect GW-16 Gateway to your computer, you'll need a micro USB cable. Your Gateway should've arrived with one, but any will do (minimum 1A output). Plug the micro USB connector to the Gateway, and the other end to your computer.
Locate the LED on top of the Gateway. When you plug in Gateway to a power source the light should turn red in about 25 seconds. After another 25 seconds, it should turn yellow, and right afterwards, it will automatically be discovered as a new storage device and accessible through your computer's file manager. If your Gateway is not accessible through computer's file manager, then please try with a different USB cable, port or computer.
If the Gateway's LED doesn't turn yellow after 1 minute during the first boot, please try a different USB port. If the problem persists, please make sure your USB port has enough voltage to power the device; special consideration when using a USB hub.
Root folder
Using your computer’s file manager, you can navigate to the Gateway's root folder. Here, you will find two folders (config & logs) and two text files (mac & uniqueId).
The config folder contains the configuration file for the Gateway. This will be described in the next section.
The logs folder contains useful information in case something goes wrong; please have those handy in case you need to reach out to our support team.
The mac.txt file contains the MAC address of the Gateway.
The uniqueId.txt file contains the Unique ID of the device.
Changing the GW-16 Gateway's configuration
To change the Gateway's configuration, or to apply it for the first time, make sure the LED is on and either yellow or green. Then follow these steps:
- Open the Gateway device using your computer's file manager, and navigate to the config folder.
- Double click on the config.txt file to open it; any text editor should work.
- Replace the default values for the API key, WiFi SSID, and WiFi password with your own.
- Remove the preceding pound sign (#).
- Save the file.
Now you have to safely unmount the Gateway. This can usually be accomplished from the taskbar or file manager by ejecting the Gateway's drive as you would any other USB device. Unplug the cable from the computer and wait a few seconds before plugging the Gateway back to a power source. This last step is really important as the Gateway needs to restart to apply the new configuration.
File corruption is possible when a USB device is forcefully removed, which may, in turn, lead to a corrupted configuration file on your Gateway. Please make sure you safely eject it before disconnecting it from your computer.
The LED should now turn red, then yellow, it will reboot and go through this sequence once again. If correctly set up, the Gateway's light will then turn green, which means that it successfully connected to the WiFi network. This process usually takes up to 2 minutes (in some cases it may be more), so please be patient.
If after two minutes, the LED status hasn't changed, please make sure to verify your WiFi credentials or internet connectivity. Internet access requirements for Kontakt.io Gateways can be found in this article.
Assigning Static IP (optional)
With firmware 1.6.3 we have introduced the option to use static IP address aside from the default auto (DHCP).
To set the IP, change the ipGetMethod to manual and provide IP, Mask, Default Gateway and DNS address.
Reconfiguration
If you only want to change one or two values, you can overwrite them as described above. There is no need to write all three values every time you need to apply a configuration change.
Enterprise Network Support
To connect your Gateway to an Enterprise Network, just change the wifiProtocol from WPA_PSK to WPA2_Enterprise and add the wifiUserName line as shown in the image below.
Don't forget to remove the hash sign # at the beginning of each of the lines before saving your file and then safely eject your Gateway before unplugging it.
