These instructions provide the final steps required to start using a Portal Beam. From the Kio Gateway Installer app, you'll apply available firmware updates, assign its Smart Location, and then mount the Portal Beam. The app guides you step-by-step and once complete the Portal Beam is ready for use.
Portal Beam mounting location: meets the placement guidelines for its occupancy mode and within Bluetooth range of a Portal Light or an integrated BLE-enabled gateway (access point).
The mounting guidelines by mode ensure proper placement and orientation of the Portal Beam. Occupancy accuracy is impacted by the Portal Beam's thermal camera field of view (FOV). In addition, the Portal Beam installation height impacts its coverage area.
Kio Gateway Installer mobile app: downloaded to your Apple or Android mobile device.
Mobile device requirements:
Apple iPhone or iPad: iOS version 11 or later
Android phone or tablet: version 5.0 or later
Bluetooth enabled (on)
Must be completed at the Portal Beam install location.
Do not mount the Portal Beam until prompted. You'll need to scan its QR code that is not visible once mounted.
Turn on the Portal Beam battery power. From its underside, move its battery power switch to the ON position.
From your smartphone, open the Kio Gateway Installer app > from the first screen, tap Skip.
Log in with your Kio Cloud account credentials.
Tap BEACONS > select the Portal Beam you're setting up and installing.
Scroll down to verify if a firmware update is available.
If available, tap FIRMWARE UPDATE AVAILABLE > from the Update Available screen, tap UPDATE.
The firmware update process begins. Please wait until the Firmware Update confirmation window appears, select OK and proceed to Step 2.
If an available update is not shown, proceed to Step 2.
Having a problem with the app not finding a Kontakt.io device or it's not allowing you to perform an action? From your mobile device, turn Bluetooth OFF and then ON again. Wait for the app to establish its connection to the device. Also, be sure you have the latest app version. Allowing automatic app updates is recommended.
Select the back arrow > tap Install devices.
Tap Portal Beam Setup.
The app guides you step-by-step to complete the setup and installation. Each Portal Beam mode has specific steps and requirements.
Room Occupancy mode: measures the number of people in a room.
Seat Level Occupancy mode: measures the seat occupancy in a workstation space.
Traffic mode: measures the number of people entering and exiting a space.
After you've mounted the Portal Beam, start the in-app tests.
If all tests are successful, the Portal Beam setup and install is complete.
