To allow staff or others access to your Kio Cloud account, first you'll need to add them as a user and assign their role. A user's permissions to beacon devices is set at the device level from the Device Management app.
The following walks you through adding users and assigning their permissions to beacon devices.
-
From your Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Users.
-
Select the Add User option.
-
Enter their settings and assign their role. The user will sign in to Kio Cloud with the email address provided.
-
Admin role: a child (sub-account/manager) to the Superuser.
A user assigned to the Admin role has permission to add new users and is limited to managing the shared device access for only the users they added. You can have one to multiple users assigned to the Admin role.
-
Operator role: a child (sub-account) to an Admin user.
A user assigned to the Operator role can only be granted shared device access. You can have multiple users assigned to the Operator role.
-
-
Select Add User.
The new user receives an activation email from Kontakt.io with the steps to activate their user account.
Next, if the user is responsible for installing or managing beacon devices, you'll need to assign their device permission.
Unique to beacon devices, each user requiring access to beacon devices must have shared permissions that is set at the device level. When a user reports they cannot view or edit a beacon device, either from Kio Cloud or the Kio Setup Manager app or by using their API key, the cause is commonly due to they do not have shared access to the beacon.
Who can manage device sharing permissions is determined by the role assigned to a user.
-
Account owner (Superuser): can set device sharing permissions for all devices.
-
Admin role: can only set sharing access for the devices that have been shared with them by the account owner (Superuser).
Note
For our developer community that integrates with the Kontakt.io APIs and SDKs, each Kio Cloud user has a unique API key that includes their shared device permissions.
-
From the Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Device Management.
-
You can assign sharing permissions to one or multiple devices.
To share one device: from the list, select the device ID/Name.
To share multiple devices: from the list, select each device the user requires access to > select BULK EDIT.
-
Select the SHARING tab > select the option that applies to the user.
-
Change Owner (Assign to subordinate): a device can only have one owner. An owner has permission to share, view, and edit a device.
-
Share with viewer permissions: user is limited to viewing the device.
-
Share with editor permissions: user can edit and configure the device.
-
Move to other company: should be used with caution and under the direction of Kontakt.io. When selected, moves the device to a different Kio Cloud account (company). When a device is moved, you're transferring ownership of the device and the device is removed from the current Kio Cloud account.
-
-
From the SHARE WITH field, enter the user's email address.
-
By default, the user has shared access to the device(s) forever. Optionally, you can set their access to expire on a specific date.
-
Select SAVE CHANGES.
The user now has shared access to the selected devices.
From each device's SHARING tab, you can view all users that have shared access and their permission.
