When a configuration update is made to a beacon (tag, badge, or Portal Beam) from Kio Cloud Device Management or the Device Management API, the device must synchronize to receive and apply the update. It's very important that a beacon's local configuration is always in sync with its Kio Cloud configuration. In this article, you'll learn how to synchronize pending configuration updates for beacon devices with the Kio Setup Manager app.
-
You have a Kio Cloud user account with assigned shared permission to the beacon devices being synchronized.
-
Kio Setup Manager app downloaded to your mobile device. Your mobile device must have Bluetooth enabled/on and an internet connection.
Download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store
If you have a Kio Cloud subscription and have multiple devices with a pending update, see How to synchronize pending updates for multiple beacons at the same time.
While locally at the device, complete the following steps to allow the beacon to receive and apply pending Kio Cloud configuration updates.
Once synchronized successfully, a confirmation is automatically sent to Kio Cloud and the device's pending configuration is cleared.
-
From your mobile device, open the Kio Setup Manager app > sign in with your Kio Cloud username and password.
-
Bring your mobile device within Bluetooth range of the beacon to update.
-
Tap Beacons. Notice the dot located to the left of the beacon.

Tip
Have a problem with the app not finding a Kontakt.io device or it's not allowing you to perform an action? From your mobile device, turn Bluetooth OFF and then ON again. Wait for the app to establish its connection to the device. Also, be sure you have the latest app version. Allowing automatic app updates is recommended.
If this does not resolve the issue, close the Kio Setup Manager app and any other open apps using Bluetooth. Then reopen the Kio Setup Manager app.
-
Tap on the Beacon to update > tap Pending Configuration > tap Apply.
The update is automatically downloaded to the beacon, which can take a few minutes. During the update, your mobile device must remain within Bluetooth range of the beacon.
The Kio Setup Manager app Bulk Edit/Manage feature provides a method to set all beacons within Bluetooth range to receive and apply pending Kio Cloud configuration updates. During a bulk update, the app updates a single beacon at a time and then continues to the next nearby beacon.
Note
Use of the app Bulk Manage feature, applying updates to multiple devices at one time, requires a Kontakt.io Kio Cloud subscription.
Currently, applying firmware updates with the Bulk Manage feature is only available from the iOS app.
-
From your mobile device, open the Kio Setup Manager app > sign in with your Kio Cloud username and password.
-
From the bottom menu, tap Bulk Edit (Android) | Bulk Manage (iOS) > tap Start Bulk Configuration (Android) | Start Bulk Management (iOS) > app searches for nearby beacons to begin the updates.
This process may take time to update each beacon. Be sure that your mobile device does not enter sleep mode during the bulk update.
