These instructions provide the steps to get a few to hundreds of Portal Lights ready for use. Portal Lights are configured with the facility's Wi-Fi network settings, and once configured they are ready to be installed with Kio Setup Manager app. If Kontakt.io pre-configured the Portal Lights with the facility's network settings, complete the steps in this article.
Once you have completed the following steps, the Portal Light will scan for Kontakt.io IoT tags and devices and transmit the collected data to Kio Cloud via its connection to the facility's local Wi-Fi network.
Important
For Enterprise network configuration (WPA2; TKIP & AES), submit a request to our support team. They will assist with the Portal Light network configuration.
For Personal (WPA; TKIP & AES) or Open Wi-Fi (WEP; Open & Shared) Wi-Fi networks, complete the following instructions.
Before you begin, please ensure that you have the following requirements in place:
-
Your Kio Cloud username (email) and password.
-
Kio Cloud Smart Location setup is complete.
-
Portal Light network requirements are met.
-
Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot (recommended) or Wi-Fi Access Point with administrator permissions.
-
Wi-Fi network settings the Portal Lights will connect to at their install locations.
-
Portal Light install locations meet the Portal Light placement guidelines.
Important
Deploying both Portal Lights and Portal Beams? First, configure and install each Portal Light and then the Portal Beams.
-
Power on each Portal Light (daisy chain or use of the Portal Light passthrough outlet is recommended).
-
First, you'll configure your Wi-Fi Hotspot or Access Point with the default Kontakt.io network. This step provides the network connection required to allow the Portal Light to download its local Wi-Fi network settings from Kio Cloud.
Add the below Kontakt.io network to your mobile Wi-Fi hotspot or Access Point.
SSID: kontaktDeployment
Password: LTPGjjwp256
Network security: WPA, WPA2-PSK, WEP
Wi-Fi Frequency: 2.4 GHz
Important
If a Portal Light LED status indicator remains RED, this indicates it could not connect to the kontaktDeployment network. Please verify the settings are correct and that it's set to a 2.4 GHz network.
-
Sign in to Kio Cloud > select Device Management 2.0 > select Gateways.
-
From the list, select each Portal Light being configured > select EXPORT [quantity selected] > select Download CSV. The download file is available for only 60 seconds.
-
From the CSV downloaded file, add the Portal Lights' Wi-Fi network settings.
The following columns represent the Wi-Fi network settings to be added to the CSV file.
Important
Do not delete the uniqueId column; this is each Portal Light's unique identifier.
-
Network Authentication: Personal (WPA; TKIP & AES), Enterprise (WPA2; TKIP & AES), Open Wi-Fi (WEP; Open &Shared)
-
WIFI Network SSID: this is case sensitive.
-
WiFi Password: passphrase (network password); case sensitive
-
Alias: for information purposes only
-
During this step, you will observe each Portal Light LED indicator to verify it has synchronized and downloaded its Wi-Fi network settings from Kio Cloud.
Each Portal Light synchronizes with Kio Cloud to download the their Wi-Fi network settings. It can take up to 5 minutes to synchronize
A Portal Light's LED indicator blinks Blue > Green > Blue > and ends with solid GREEN when it successfully connects to the local Wi-Fi network.
If after 5 minutes its RED LED indicator is blinking, this indicates it failed to connect to the network. From Kio Cloud, verify its Wi-Fi network settings are correct.
If the settings are correct, verify the Portal Light network requirements are met to allow its connection to Kio Cloud and an NTP time source. Its LED status indicator may also provide insight into the issue.
Now that each Portal Light is connected to the local Wi-Fi network, they're ready to be installed.
This step must be completed at the Portal Light install location.
Important
From a printed floor plan or list, be sure to mark each Portal Light install location with its unique ID or MAC address. During the last step, you will need this information when assigning each Portal Light to its install location.
During installation, the app is required and walks you through the setup and installation steps. If you already have the app, be sure you have the latest version.
To download the app, go to the App Store or Google Play. Search for Kio Setup Manager.
App requirements: Apple iPhone or iPad: iOS version 11 or later | Android phone or tablet: version 5.0 or later | Bluetooth enabled (on) | Internet connection
