This article provides instructions to update the WiFi network setting for Portal Lights. Commonly an update is required when there has been a change to the WiFi network or the current configured settings are incorrect.
Note
Managing and viewing Portal Lights, both from Kio Cloud Device Management and the Kio Setup Manager app, is limited to the Kio Cloud account owner; all other account users do not have access to Portal Lights.
The following table details the three methods available to update Portal Light network settings.
When the... |
Method to use... |
---|---|
Current WiFi network Portal Lights connect to is online and you only need to change the network they connect to. |
|
Current WiFi network is not available or incorrect and there are multiple Portal Lights to update. |
|
Current WiFi configured network is not available or incorrect and there only a few Portal Lights to update. |
The method allows you to change the WiFi network settings remotely from Kio Cloud Device Management. The currrent configured WiFi network must be online to allow the Portal Lights to connect to the network and synchronize with Kio Cloud to receive the updated WiFi network settings.
-
Sign in to Kio Cloud > select Device Management > select Gateways.
-
From the list, select each Portal Light requiring an update > select Bulk Edit.
-
Enter the updated WiFi network settings > select Save.
-
Network Authentication: Personal (WPA; TKIP & AES), Enterprise (WPA2; TKIP & AES), Open WiFi (WEP; Open &Shared)
-
Network Name: SSID; case sensitive
-
Network Password: passphrase (network password); case sensitive
-
Alias: for information purposes only
-
-
Now, you'll need to monitor their connectivity to the updated network.
From the list of Gateways, verify that the Portal Lights begin to show their status as Online. You may need to refresh your browser to view the latest status.
If you are onsite, when the Portal Light LED status indicator is GREEN this indicates it has successfully connected the network.
This method requires you to be onsite and have access to each of the Portal Lights requiring the WiFi setting update. During this method, the Portal Lights connect to the Kontakt.io device network to synchronize and receive the WiFi settings updates from Kio Cloud. Once synchronized, the Portal Lights connect to the updated network.
-
Your Kio Cloud username (email) and password.
-
Mobile WiFi Hotspot (recommended) or WiFi Access Point with administrator permissions.
-
Computer and smartphone or tablet with an internet connection.
-
Kio Setup Manager app download on your smartphone or tablet.
To download the app, go to the App Store or Google Play. Search for Kio Setup Manager
.

First, you'll configure your mobile device's WiFi Hotspot or WiFi Access Point with the default Kontakt.io network.
This step provides the network connection required to allow the Portal Lights to download the updated WiFi network settings from Kio Cloud.
Add the below Kontakt.io network to your mobile WiFi hotspot or Access Point.
SSID: kontaktDeployment
Password: LTPGjjwp256
Network security: WPA, WPA2-PSK, WEP
WiFi Frequency: 2.4 GHz
Important
If a Portal Light LED status indicator remains RED, this indicates it could not connect to the kontaktDeployment network. Please verify the settings are correct and that it's set to a 2.4 GHz network.

Wait for up to 5 minutes.
Each Portal Light synchronizes with Kio Cloud to download the updated WiFi network settings.
A Portal Light's LED indicator blinks Blue > Green > Blue > and ends with solid GREEN when it successfully connects to the local WiFi network.
If after 5 minutes its RED LED indicator is blinking, this indicates it failed to connect to the network. From Kio Cloud, verify its WiFi network settings are correct.
If the settings are correct, verify the Portal Light network requirements are met to allow its connection to Kio Cloud and an NTP time source. Its LED status indicator may also provide insight into the issue.
This method requires you to be onsite and have access to each of the Portal Lights requiring the WiFi setting update. During this method, from the Kio Setup Manager app you complete the Portal Light Install steps that allow you to locally configure its updated WiFi network settings. Once configured, the Portal Light connects to the network and its network settings are synchronized with Kio Cloud.
