Upgrading from earlier versions of firmware

I think there might've been some misunderstanding. We've left our old Android app in the Google Play Store specifically for the purpose of upgrading firmwares of the nRF51-based beacons to the latest version 4.x. You can find it here:

Unfortunately, due to Apple policy in the App Store, we couldn't do the same for iOS.

Once you upgrade firmware on these beacons you can use the latest apps as usually.

As for the general practice of deprecating support for old firmwares, software, etc., I don't think this is something completely out of bounds and unheard of. Especially, since we've started communicating this plan to our customers nearly a year ago and finally pulled the trigger only at the beginning of this year.

I'm sorry that you're unhappy with our decision, but supporting legacy software is very costly and if we want to grow and release new and better solutions, we have to at some point cut the ties with the past.

I took a while but finally got them updated. I reacted to your documentation in the app and on your site. If you had stated that it was still possible I would have reacted differently.

I had a lot of issues using the new android app. It failed every time to upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1.

Luckily I have an iPhone and the app worked ok on that to upgrade them.

I don't expect you to support things forever of course not, but when the hardware is still compatible and only requires a firmware update then I think it's not too unreasonable to support it for maybe two major version numbers which is fairly standard in the software industry.
