The Universal Dispenser Beacon signals its state through a single LED and accepts two button actions. Use this page while installing a Dispenser Beacon or when checking one that is not behaving as expected.
The LED is off during normal operation. A Dispenser Beacon on a dispenser with no light showing is working.
LED patterns
| Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| One fast green blink | A dispense was detected and counted. This is the confirmation to look for after a test dispense. |
| Three green blinks | The Dispenser Beacon has left maintenance mode and is detecting dispenses again. |
| Three yellow blinks | The Dispenser Beacon has entered maintenance mode. Dispenses are ignored for 30 seconds. |
| Fast blinking | A refill has been recorded, following a triple-click of the button. |
| Constant red blinking | An internal error, or the Dispenser Beacon is unconfigured or misconfigured. |
Button actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Single press | Starts maintenance mode for 30 seconds. Dispenses are ignored during that window. |
| Triple click | Records a refill and resets the activation counter. A 30-second back-off prevents an accidental double refill. |
Maintenance mode
Maintenance mode stops the Dispenser Beacon counting motion that is not a dispense. Opening a dispenser, refilling it, or knocking it while working nearby would otherwise register as activity, because the Dispenser Beacon detects a dispense from the motion of the dispenser housing.
The Dispenser Beacon enters maintenance mode automatically when it is mounted, and a single press starts it at any time. Use it before opening a dispenser for any reason.
Recording a refill
Triple-click the button while refilling. This does two things: it records the refill event, and it resets the activation counter that drives the dispenser's refill level.
Skipping the triple-click leaves the counter counting down from the previous refill, so the dispenser continues to report a falling refill level and eventually shows as low on refill while actually being full.
Note: This applies to the Universal Dispenser Beacon only. The ES8 and ES10 Dispenser Beacons detect a refill automatically through their connection to the dispenser's own module, with no button press needed.
If the LED blinks red
A constant red blink means the Dispenser Beacon has an internal error, or its configuration is missing or does not match the dispenser it is mounted on. The most common cause is a Dispenser Beacon that was previously installed on a different dispenser model and still carries that model's calibration.
- Confirm in Kio Setup Manager that the dispenser model selected for this Dispenser Beacon matches the dispenser it is mounted on.
- Reinstall the Dispenser Beacon from Kio Setup Manager. A fresh install clears a stale configuration.
- Wait 30 seconds for maintenance mode to end, then complete a test dispense and watch for a single green blink.
If the issue persists
If the Dispenser Beacon still blinks red after reinstalling, or a test dispense produces no green blink, contact Kontakt.io support. When submitting your request, include:
- The Dispenser Beacon's Unique ID and the location it is installed in.
- The dispenser make and model it is mounted on, and the dispenser model selected in Kio Setup Manager.
- The LED pattern you are seeing and how long it has persisted.
- Whether the Dispenser Beacon has been installed on a different dispenser previously.
Do not adjust the mounting position to compensate for missed dispenses — the detection is calibrated for one specific position, and moving the Dispenser Beacon makes the readings less reliable, not more.
