Each Kontakt.io device is uniquely identifiable through its Unique ID property - an alphanumeric string. However, the scheme used to generate Unique IDs has evolved through the years. Therefore, devices purchased in different years can have Unique IDs that look different or have various lengths.
-
Unique IDs are randomly generated by Kontakt.io during production and cannot be changed.
-
Unique IDs are alphanumeric strings (using letters a-z, A-Z and numbers 0-9) that are a minimum of 4 characters.
For the 6 character string Unique IDs, the first character represents a number of a week in a year when the device was manufactured. The second character refers to a year of production. The last 4 characters are randomly generated and are unique for devices assembled in a given week.
-
No two devices have the same Unique ID.
The only exception from this rule is a warranty replacement. When a device is replaced, a clone of that device is provided. It means the cloned replacement device has the same Unique ID and configuration of the device being replaced.
-
In some circumstances, non-Kontakt.io devices can be integrated with the Kio Cloud platform. These devices commonly use various identification schemes. Kontakt.io does not generate Unique IDs for these devices, but incorporates their existing identifiers as Unique IDs.
It's possible the Unique IDs for these devices will have significantly different values, which may be the MAC addresses of the 3rd-party device. But please keep in mind this refers only to non-Kontakt.io devices.
