Beacons equipped with buttons allow an end user to trigger an action that gets reported to Kio Cloud via the beacon telemetry. Buttons allow signaling among others events including, when an end user requests attention, when an asset has been found, or when a panic situation has occurred.
-
When a button is pressed, a counter event in the beacon telemetry is increased and the time since the last event is zeroed to signal a new counter event occurrence. This information is available from the Location and Occupancy telemetry endpoints.
-
A long press, holding a button for 5 seconds, sets the device into sleep mode, maximizing power saving, until another long press is performed that wakes the device. If the device must always remain in operation, no sleep or wake events, the long press sleep mode function can be disabled from the device's button events power off setting available in Device Management (Sensors/IR tab).
-
Pressing a button always wakes up the device from power saving or sleep mode, and it broadcasts the Kontakt.io Secure Profile Packet for 60 seconds that allows a connection to the device due to the temporary increase in advertisement frequency.
-
For devices with multiple buttons, each button can be used to wake the device up. The telemetry counters are separate for each button, allowing the user to know which button has been pressed.
-
For the Portal Beam, a button press resets its thermal camera processor that immediately captures a new image. The button (reset/action) is located within its underside compartment.
Note
For button counter events, the beacon Telemetry Packet is not required to be enabled.
