The setup and installation of a Beam Mini is completed from Kontakt.io's Kio Setup Manager mobile app, along with physically mounting the device. The Kio Setup Manager guides you through the install steps, including assigning its install location and completing the in-app testing.
Topics include:
-
A BLE to Wi-Fi gateway device (Kontakt.io Portal Light or third-party compatible BLE Access Point) is located in the room where the Beam Mini is being installed.
-
Mounting location meets the Beam Mini placement guidelines.
-
Kontakt.io order is claimed—this adds the devices to your organization's account. From Device Management 2.0, Beam Mini devices are located in the Inventory > Infrastructure menu.
-
Smart Location setup is complete— the mapping of the campuses, buildings, floors along with digital floor plans, and the rooms.
Kontakt.io Infrastructure devices, those that remain in a fixed, stationary position, are required to be installed using the Kio Setup Manager mobile app. If you already have the app, be sure you have the latest version.

Ensure you’re in the room where you’ll be mounting the Beam Mini.

-
The app automatically applies the following for the Beam Mini; available from its profile in Device Management 2.0.
Notes: as displayed. You can update this information as needed.
Deployment Status: set to Deployed.
Tag (label): adds the Campus name (up to the first 25 characters).
You're now ready to mount the Beam Mini. Be sure to keep the Kio Setup Manager app open to complete IR location testing.
Follow the mounting instructions.
Kontakt.io recommends temporarily mounting the beam (tape method). This will allow you to complete the next step.
To complete this step, you'll need a Kontakt.io Tag with IR enabled within the room.
-
Return to the Kio Setup Manager app, tap Test IR Location.
If this option is no longer displayed, you will have to repeat the install steps.
-
Tap Add Tag > scan the tag's QR code.
-
Tap Test IR Location.
The expected outcome is the Tag is detected in the same room as the Beam Mini.
Tip
It's recommended to complete the IR test with the tag at various locations within the room—complete an IR Test at each corner within the room.
-
Once testing is complete, tap Exit.
