The setup and installation of a Beam Mini is completed from Kontakt.io's Kio Setup Manager mobile app, along with physically mounting the device. During the Kio Setup Manager guided install steps, you will assign its install location and complete the in-app testing.
Important
Before you begin, ensure the Beam Mini mounting location is identified. Be sure it's mounting location meets the placement guidelines.
-
A BLE to Wi-Fi gateway device is installed within the room location where the Beam Mini is being installed. Either a Kontakt.io Portal Light or third-party compatible BLE Access Point, such as a Cisco Catalyst Access Point.
-
You're assigned to a Device Management role within your organization's Kio Cloud account.
-
Beam Mini has been added to your Kio Cloud account. From Device Management 2.0, Beam Mini devices are located in the Inventory Infrastructure menu.

To download the app, go to the App Store or Google Play. Search for Kio Setup Manager .
App requirements: Apple iPhone or iPad: iOS version 15 or later | Android phone or tablet: version 5.0 or later | Bluetooth enabled (on) | Internet connection
You must be located at the room-level location where you'll be mounting the Beam Mini.

Recommended: write down its MAC address and Unique ID located on its underside. Once the Beam Mini is mounted, this information will not be visible.
-
From your mobile device, open the Kio Setup Manager app > sign in with your Kio Cloud account credentials.
-
Tap Install Devices > Beam > Beam Mini. You are guided through each step.
-
Scan its QR code or enter its MAC address/Unique ID.
-
Assign its install location, tap Select Location > tap the Campus > Building > Floor > Room.
-
When prompted, apply its reconfiguration.
-
Complete the in-app Tests - verifies its configuration and that its data is being received by Kio Cloud from an in-range infrastructure gateway device.
-
The app automatically applies the following for the Beam Mini; available from its profile in Device Management 2.0
Notes: as displayed. You can update this information as needed.
Deployment Status: set to Deployed.
Tag (label): adds the Campus name (up to the first 25 characters).
-
You're now ready to mount the Beam Mini. Be sure to keep the Kio Setup Manager app open to complete IR location testing.
Follow the mounting instructions.
Kontakt.io recommends to temporarily mount the beam (tape method). This will allow you to complete Step 4 to validate its IR coverage area prior to a permanent mount.
To complete this step, you'll need a Kontakt.io Tag (Asset Tag 2 model or Smart Badge).
-
Return to the Kio Setup Manager app, tap Test IR Location.
If this option is no longer displayed, you will have to repeat the install steps.
-
Tap Add Tag > scan the tag's QR code.
-
Tap Test IR Location.
The expected outcome is the Tag is detected in the same room as the Beam Mini.
Tip
It's recommended to complete the IR test with the tag at various locations within the room. For example, complete an IR Test at each corner within the room.
-
Once testing is complete, tap Exit.
