Assigning a Kontakt.io tag to an asset entity in Kio Cloud links the tag to the equipment. After the assignment is saved, the asset can be located in Asset Tracker or the relevant Kio App. Complete this workflow for every asset that needs a tag.
Before you begin
- Signed in to Kio Entity Manager
- The asset entity exists in Kio Cloud. Kio Entity Manager does not create asset entities — create them in Entity Manager, Company Settings, or the relevant Kio App (Asset Tracker, IV Pump, Wheelchair Manager, or other) before starting.
- The tag is in Device Management inventory. Devices are added to inventory by claiming the Order ID from the Kontakt.io packaging or order confirmation email in Device Management.
- Camera access is granted to Kio Entity Manager
- Bluetooth is on
- For iPhone Sticker Tag scans: NFC is on
- Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)
Steps
On the Select Action screen, tap Assign Tag to Asset.
-
Choose the tag type:
- Sticker Tag — for adhesive Sticker Tags
- Other Tag — for Asset Tag 2, Asset Tag 2 Mini, Nano Tag, Nano Tag IR, or Nano Series
Note: On iPad, the tag-type chooser does not appear because iPads have no NFC reader. iPad starts on the Other Tag path and accepts every tag type, including Sticker Tags, via QR scan.
-
Scan the tag:
- Sticker Tag on iPhone — Hold the iPhone near the Sticker Tag to scan it by NFC. If the tag has no readable MAC, tap Scan QR code and point the camera at the QR code on the side of the tag.
- Sticker Tag on iPad or Android — Point the camera at the QR code on the side of the tag.
- Other Tag (all devices) — Point the camera at the QR code on the side of the tag. To enter the MAC or unique ID by hand, tap Enter MAC / ID.
Wait for Verifying Tag ID exists in Kio Cloud to finish. If the tag is not found, the app shows Tag ID Not Found. Confirm the tag's Order ID is claimed in Device Management, then retry.
Scan the asset barcode. To enter the Asset ID by hand, tap Enter Asset ID.
Wait for Verifying Asset ID exists in Kio Cloud to finish. If the asset is not found, see Asset or staff entity not found.
-
On the summary screen, review:
- Asset ID (the External ID you scanned)
- Kio Tag MAC
- Kio Tag ID
The note field is filled in with an auto-generated description. Edit it if you need to add detail. See Default note format.
Tap Submit.
Wait for Syncing tag and asset assignment with Kio Cloud to finish.
What happens next
The app shows Success! Tag Assigned. The tag's deployment status in Device Management changes to Deployed, and the note is saved to its profile. On Android, the app also records your name and email on the profile. The asset appears with an active tag in Asset Tracker and can be located once it is in range of a nearby gateway, such as a Portal Light or integrated Access Point.
Tap Assign Next Tag to continue with another asset, or Exit to return to the Select Action screen.
