Notification types
Kio Staff Safe Alerts uses two iOS notification types. The iOS types are independent of the Staff Safe alert severity levels (Critical, High, Medium, Low, Info). Both iOS types deliver the same alert content; they differ in how iOS presents the notification.
| Type | Sound on muted device | Overrides Focus / Do Not Disturb | Shown on lock screen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Critical Alerts | Yes | Yes | Yes, immediately |
| Normal notifications | No (follows mute setting) | No | Depends on your iOS notification settings |
Configure both types in iOS settings. See Verify your iOS settings.
What to expect on first launch
The first time you open Kio Staff Safe Alerts after install, iOS prompts you to allow notifications.
| Your choice | Result |
|---|---|
| Allow | Notifications turn on automatically. Critical Alerts and Sounds are enabled. |
| Don't Allow | Notifications stay off. You can turn them on later in iOS Settings. See Verify your iOS settings. |
Note: If your organization hasn't approved push notifications yet, tap Don't Allow at the prompt. You can turn notifications on later.
How notifications appear
When a new staff duress alert is triggered, the notification appears differently depending on what you're doing.
| Context | What you see |
|---|---|
| Kio Staff Safe Alerts is open | A banner appears at the top of the screen. Swipe left on the banner, or tap its close button, to dismiss it. |
| A different app is open | A standard iOS banner appears at the top of the screen. |
| The device is locked | The notification appears on the lock screen. Preview content depends on your iOS notification settings. |
Tap the notification from any context to open Kio Staff Safe Alerts directly to the alert details. The alert details show severity, status, duration, the time the alert was activated, a map of the staff member's location, and Acknowledge and Resolve buttons.
To return to the alert list from the alert details, tap the back arrow.
