Kio Staff Safe Alerts is the responder's mobile view of active staff duress alerts. It runs on iPhone and iPad and shows only active alerts for the campuses or buildings you select, with the staff member's real-time location and one-tap Acknowledge and Resolve actions. Use Kio Staff Safe Alerts when you're a responder during a shift and need fast access to the alerts you're responsible for.
Where it fits
Kio Staff Safe Alerts is one of two ways to respond to staff duress alerts. The other is the Simple View in the Staff Safe web app. Both show the same active alerts at the same time.
| Surface | Where it runs | Primary use |
|---|---|---|
| Kio Staff Safe Alerts mobile app | iPhone, iPad | Responders during a shift, including on shared iPads in dedicated locations |
| Staff Safe Simple View | Kio Staff Safe web app, in a browser | Responders at a workstation; central monitoring stations |
| Staff Safe List View | Kio Staff Safe web app, in a browser | Full alert history, including resolved alerts and analytics |
The mobile app does not replace the web app — they share the same alert data, and an alert acknowledged or resolved on one surface immediately reflects on the other.
What you can do with it
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| View active alerts | See all New and Acknowledged alerts for the campuses or buildings you have selected. |
| See real-time location | View the staff member's current room on a floor plan. The location updates as the staff member moves. |
| Acknowledge an alert | Indicate you're responding. The alert moves to the Acknowledged tab and is visible to other responders. |
| Resolve an alert | Close the alert with a Resolution Code and an optional note. |
| Receive push notifications | Get a notification when a new alert is triggered, even when the app is closed. See Push notifications in Kio Staff Safe Alerts mobile app. |
| Switch locations | Change which campuses or buildings the app monitors. Choose up to 10 campuses, or up to 10 buildings within a single campus. |
What you can't do with it
The mobile app focuses on responding to alerts. The following are managed in the Staff Safe web app or Kio Cloud.
| What | Where to do it |
|---|---|
| Configure Alert Rules | Staff Safe web app |
| Manage staff, Staff Groups, or Staff Roles | Staff Safe web app, Company Settings, or Kio Entity Manager |
| Assign Smart Badges to staff | Staff Safe web app or Kio Entity Manager mobile app |
| View Resolved alert history | Staff Safe web app — Alerts > List > Alerts History |
| View Safety Summary dashboard or analytics | Staff Safe web app |
| Add or remove users | Users app in Kio Cloud |
Who it's for
Kio Staff Safe Alerts is intended for staff responding to duress alerts: nurse managers, charge nurses, security responders, facilities staff, and any role that needs immediate visibility into active alerts and the ability to acknowledge and resolve them.
To use the mobile app, a user needs both of the following on their Kio Cloud account:
- The Mobile User role. This grants the long-lived session that mobile devices need, plus read access to staff and location data.
- One of Administrator, User, or Alerts User. This grants the ability to acknowledge and resolve alerts.
A user assigned Mobile User only can sign in to the mobile app and view active alerts but can't acknowledge or resolve them. A user with the action role but no Mobile User role may struggle to maintain a session on the mobile device.
Note: Role names match the Users app role list. If you don't see Acknowledge and Resolve buttons after signing in, contact your Staff Safe administrator to confirm your roles.
Device requirements
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Device | iPhone or iPad |
| Operating system | iOS 17 or later |
| Network | Internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular) |
| Push notifications | Allowed for Kio Alerts in iOS Settings. See Push notifications in Kio Staff Safe Alerts mobile app. |
For shared responder iPads, Kontakt.io recommends iPad Kiosk (Single App) Mode so the device stays focused on Kio Staff Safe Alerts. Kiosk Mode is configured in iPadOS by your organization's IT staff.
How alerts get to the mobile app
When a Smart Badge button press matches an Alert Rule, an alert is triggered. The alert reaches the mobile app through three channels at the same time.
| Channel | What it does |
|---|---|
| Real-time connection | A live connection between the mobile app and Kio Cloud sends new and updated alerts the moment they happen. |
| Periodic refresh | The app refreshes the alert list every 30 seconds as a backup. |
| Push notification | iOS delivers a push notification to the device, even when the app is closed. |
A small "Last alert list update Ns ago" indicator at the top of the alert list shows how recently the app received an update. If the indicator turns red, the connection to Kio Cloud has been interrupted and the app is automatically retrying.
