The questions badge wearers ask about most often.
Day to day
How do I signal for help? Press a button on your Smart Badge the number of times your organization has set. The alert is silent — there's nothing else you need to do.
My badge has two buttons, which one do I press? Your organization has programmed both buttons for duress alerts, so either button will activate an alert.
Why do I press the button more than once? Pressing the button more than once is a deliberate action that prevents accidental alerts. Your organization sets the exact number of presses.
How will I know responders are coming? As soon as you signal for help from your badge, responders are notified with your real-time location. If you have questions about your organization's security response procedures, contact your manager.
Will my badge work at home or offsite? No. Your badge only works inside Staff Safe coverage areas — the indoor and outdoor locations set up for Staff Safe. At home, offsite, or anywhere without coverage, the system cannot receive your badge's signal, so no alert is sent.
What if I trigger an alert by accident? Let a nearby responder or your manager know it was accidental.
What if I forget my badge at home? You won't be able to signal for help with it. Tell your supervisor or manager as soon as possible.
What if my badge is damaged or lost? Tell your supervisor or manager right away. They can provide you a replacement badge.
The badge itself
Do I need to turn it on? No. Your badge was powered on when it was assigned to you and cannot be switched off.
Can I wear it in an MRI or scanner room? No. Remove your badge before entering any MRI-controlled area or scanner room — its electronic components are not MRI-safe.
Do I need to charge it? How long does the battery last? No, there's nothing for you to charge. The battery is designed to last 4+ years. The system monitors badge battery levels, and your team will replace your badge when needed.
Can I wear it if I have a pacemaker? Yes, with placement care. Keep the badge at least 6 inches (15 cm) from your pacemaker and do not wear the badge directly over the implant. Always refer to and follow the pacemaker manufacturer instructions.
Is it okay to leave the badge in a hot car? Avoid leaving the badge in a hot car or other high-temperature environments. Excessive heat can damage the badge and shorten its battery life.
Is it okay if the badge gets wet? Yes. The badge is designed to withstand splashes and light rain during normal use. However, it is not waterproof and should never be submerged in water.
Can wearing a badge cause cancer? Kontakt.io Smart Badge models use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology with a transmit power of just -4 dBm, which is extremely low — far below typical consumer wireless devices. There is currently no scientific evidence linking BLE or comparable low-power wireless technologies to health issues such as cancer. Regulatory bodies like the FCC, WHO, and ICNIRP have all established safe exposure limits for radio frequency emissions, and Kontakt.io devices holding FCC Certification operate well below those thresholds.
