You can update the configuration of your Kontakt.io BLE Tags and Infrastructure devices at any time from Device Management. When you change a device's configuration, the device is set to the pending configuration status and must synchronize to receive and apply the update.
How devices are synchronized
Your infrastructure determines how devices synchronize to receive configuration updates. Regardless of your infrastructure, pending updates can always be synchronized locally at a device. See Synchronize device pending updates with the Kio Setup Manager app.
| Infrastructure | Synchronization method |
|---|---|
| Kontakt.io Portal Lights — Portal Lights both receive data from and send data to Kontakt.io BLE devices, and connect to the local Wi-Fi network to synchronize their data with Kio Cloud. | BLE Tags and Infrastructure devices receive over-the-air (OTA) configuration updates from a nearby Portal Light. For OTA configuration updates, BLE devices must be in Bluetooth range of a Portal Light, and the Portal Light must have an active connection to the local Wi-Fi network and to Kio Cloud. OTA updates can take a few to several minutes, depending on the number of devices in range of a Portal Light, the number of devices with a pending update, whether devices are moving or stationary, and the devices' power-saving configuration. |
| No gateway infrastructure | Pending configuration updates must be synchronized locally at a device. See Synchronize device pending updates with the Kio Setup Manager app. |
| Cisco Spaces integration | Configuration updates are received over the air (OTA) from Bluetooth-enabled Cisco Access Points. See the Cisco Spaces Help Center and documentation for details. |
| Cisco Meraki Access Point integration — configuration updates are made from Kio Cloud Device Management. | Pending configuration updates must be synchronized locally at a device. See Synchronize device pending updates with the Kio Setup Manager app. |
How to view devices that have a pending update
In Device Management, a device's synchronization status tells you whether it has a pending setting update.
From Kio Cloud, go to Device Management.
From the Inventory menu, select the device category, either Tags or Infrastructure.
To find the devices with a pending update, select Add Criteria, select Synchronizing, then set the filter to Not Synchronized. The list shows only the devices that need to synchronize to receive a pending update.

To see the details of the pending update, select a device to open its profile. The tab with the sync icon has the pending update.
Select that tab. A pending setting update notification appears, and the setting that changed shows the sync icon.
