When you update Device Management settings for Kontakt.io Tags or BLE-only Infrastructure devices (Portal Beam, Beam Mini, Anchor Beacon), each device must synchronize with Kio Cloud to receive and apply the update. If you don't have a Portal Light infrastructure or compatible BLE access points, you synchronize each device locally with the Kio Setup Manager mobile app.
Before you begin
User access. You must be assigned a Device Management role. Your role determines what you can do and which devices you can access. For example, a user assigned the Device Management Administrator role has access to all devices. For more information, see About user access to Device Management.
-
To install the app, go to the App Store or Google Play. Search for Kio Setup Manager.
Device compatibility: iPhone or iPad on iOS 16 or later; Android phone or tablet on version 8 or later.
Connectivity: Bluetooth on, and a Wi-Fi or cellular connection with internet access.
-
Account type. You'll need to know if your organization's account is a Tenant or Non-Tenant type. You can identify the account type from the URL used to sign in from a web browser.
Tenant account type: You sign in to Kio Cloud from an unique URL that includes the Tenant ID. Example: https://[Tenant ID].app.cloud.[us or uk].kontakt.io.
Non-Tenant account type: You sign in to Kio Cloud from https://app.cloud.us.kontakt.io or https://app.cloud.uk.kontakt.io.
-
Account Region. During sign in, you'll need to select the region of your organization's account.
The Region is also located in the account URL (https://[Tenant ID].app.cloud.[us or uk].kontakt.io).
How to synchronize a device
At the device, complete these steps to let it synchronize and receive its pending update from Kio Cloud.
From your mobile device, open the Kio Setup Manager app and sign in.
Bring your mobile device within Bluetooth range of the device.
-
From the bottom menu, tap Devices. The Nearby Devices view is shown by default, with two sections:
My Nearby Devices: devices within Bluetooth range that you have access to.
Other Nearby Devices: devices within Bluetooth range that you don't have access to, or that aren't on this Kio Cloud account.
The separate My Devices view lists all the devices you have access to, whether or not they're currently in range.
A status icon appears next to a device that needs attention:
A pending-configuration icon (orange) indicates the device has a configuration update from Kio Cloud waiting to be applied.
A firmware-update icon (blue) indicates a firmware update is available. A separate icon indicates a firmware upgrade is already scheduled.
Tip: If the app can't find a Kontakt.io device or won't let you perform an action, turn Bluetooth off and then on again, then wait for the app to connect to the device. Make sure you have the latest app version; allowing automatic app updates is recommended. If the issue continues, close the Kio Setup Manager app and any other open apps using Bluetooth, then reopen the Kio Setup Manager app.
-
Tap the device to be synchronized > tap Show Details > tap Pending Configuration > tap Apply.
The update is automatically downloaded to the device, which can take a few minutes. During the update, your mobile device must remain within Bluetooth range of the device.
Once synchronized successfully, a confirmation is automatically sent to Kio Cloud and the device's pending configuration is cleared.
