A floor's coverage heatmap shows how strong gateway coverage is across that floor. It overlays the floor plan with color bands, so you can see at a glance where location data will be reliable and where it will suffer. Use it to validate a deployment after installing gateways.
Open the heatmap
You open the heatmap from the dashboard, one floor at a time:
- Open the Dashboard.
- Expand a campus, then a building, until the floor you want appears in the tree.
- Next to the floor's name, select the View heatmap icon.
The heatmap opens in a new browser tab, on the floor's plan, with the coverage bands drawn over it.
Read the coverage bands
The heatmap grades coverage from strong to none:
- Strong
- Healthy
- Medium
- Low
- None
Areas in the stronger bands have reliable coverage. Areas in the lower bands, or with no coverage, are where location accuracy will suffer, because the Location Engine has little signal to work with there.
Validate a deployment
Check the heatmap after installing gateways on a floor. If part of the floor falls into the Low or None bands, that area may need an additional gateway, or an existing one repositioned. After you change device placement, open the heatmap again to confirm the coverage improved.
You can export the heatmap as a PDF to share coverage findings or keep a record of a deployment.
