Import assets from a CSV file

In Entity Manager, add or update many assets at once by importing a CSV file. Import is the fastest way to set up a large group of assets or apply the same change across many of them.

Before you begin

  • You have the Asset Manager role. See About user access to Entity Manager.
  • The Asset Types referenced in your file already exist. Asset Types are created in Company Settings.

Steps

  1. From the Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Entity Manager.
  2. Go to Assets.
  3. Select Import.
  4. Select Get template to download the CSV template. The template includes the required columns and the optional columns you can fill in.
  5. Fill in one row per asset. Each row needs a unique External ID and any settings the Asset Type defines.
  6. Save your file and select it in the Import wizard.
  7. Review the wizard's check of your file. It flags any missing required columns and any rows with errors before the import runs.
  8. Correct any flagged rows in your file and select it again, or continue if there are no errors.
  9. Select Import to finish.

How rows are matched

Import matches each row to an existing asset by its External ID. If the External ID is new, a new asset is created. If it already exists, that asset is updated with the values in the row.

Result

The imported assets appear in the list. If any rows could not be imported, the wizard reports the reason for each — for example, a missing required field, an unknown Asset Type, or a tag that is already in use.
