Add an escalation to notify additional people when an alert still needs attention after a set amount of time. An escalation assigns an existing Escalation Alert Rule to a regular Alert Rule and defines when the escalation should trigger.
The Escalation Alert Rule defines the Group that can acknowledge or resolve the escalation alert and how that Group is notified. This task connects that Escalation Alert Rule to the original Alert Rule.
Before you begin
- You're signed in with the Administrator role in Device Health.
- The Escalation Alert Rule you want to assign already exists. See Create an Escalation Alert Rule.
- The Alert Rule you want to add escalation to already exists, or you're creating it now.
- You know how long Device Health should wait before checking whether to escalate.
- You know which trigger condition to use: Not Acknowledged, Not Resolved, or Condition Active.
Add the escalation
From the Kontakt.io Launchpad, open Device Health.
Go to Settings > Alert Rules.
Open the Alert Rule you want to update, or create a new Alert Rule and continue to the Actions step.
In the Actions step, add an escalation.
-
Set When to the trigger condition Device Health should check after the wait time:
- Not Acknowledged: escalates if the original alert hasn't been acknowledged.
- Not Resolved: escalates if the original alert hasn't been resolved.
- Condition Active: escalates if the condition that triggered the alert is still occurring — for example, the Portal Light is still offline.
Set After to the amount of time Device Health should wait after the original alert is triggered.
Set Then to the Escalation Alert Rule that should trigger. The Group assigned to the selected Escalation Alert Rule controls who can acknowledge or resolve the escalation alert.
To create another escalation level, add another escalation with its own trigger condition, wait time, and Escalation Alert Rule. Each Escalation Alert Rule can be used once per Alert Rule.
Review the Alert Rule summary.
Select Save.
Result
When an alert from the original rule meets the escalation trigger condition after the wait time, Device Health triggers a new escalation alert through the selected Escalation Alert Rule.
Only members of the Group assigned to the Escalation Alert Rule can acknowledge or resolve the escalation alert. The original alert and the escalation alert are resolved separately.
Resolving the original alert cancels pending escalations. Acknowledging the original alert cancels pending escalations with the trigger condition Not Acknowledged.
