Alert Rule examples by use case

The following provides examples of how Device Health Alert Rules can be set up to monitor your deployed devices. This information is intended to provide guidelines to ensure alerts are activated when it matters and to avoid alert fatigue when alerts are activated too often.

Portal Beam and Portal Light monitoring for all Occupancy use cases

100 Portal Beams, 20 Portal Lights per location, multiple locations

Infrastructure devices:

  • Portal Light Offline: alert when any Portal Light goes offline for 30 minutes.

  • Last Seen: alert when any Portal Beam is not seen for more than 24 hours. 

  • Low Battery: alert when 20% of the Portal Beams have a battery level below 25%.

Portal Beam and Portal Light monitoring for all Asset tracking use cases including Asset Tags

100 Portal Beams, 20 Portal Lights, 500 Asset Tags per location, multiple locations

Infrastructure devices:

  • Portal Light Offline: alert when any Portal Light goes offline for 30 minutes

  • Last Seen: alert when any Portal Beam is not seen for more than 24 hours. 

  • Low Battery: alert when 20% of the Portal Beams have a battery level below 25%.  

Asset Tags:

  • Last Seen: alert when any Asset Tag is not seen for more than 7 days (optional).

  • Low Battery: alert when 20% of the Asset Tags have a battery level below 25%. 

Portal Beam and Portal Light Monitoring for all Staff tracking use cases including Badge Holders (Smart Badges)

100 Portal Beams, 20 Portal Lights, 500 Badge Holders per location, multiple locations

Infrastructure devices:

  • Portal Light Offline: alert when any Portal Light goes offline for 15 minutes.

  • Last Seen: alert if any Portal Beam is not seen for more than 24 hours. 

  • Low Battery: alert when 20% of the Portal Beams have a battery level below 25%.  

Badge Holders (Smart Badges):

  • Last Seen: alert when any Badge Holder is not seen for more than 31 days (optional).

  • Low Battery: alert when 20% of the Badge Holder have a battery level below 25%. 

Monitoring Anchor Beacon Infrastructure for Indoor Wayfinding

1000 Anchor Beacons and 100 Portal Lights per location, multiple locations

Infrastructure devices:

  • Portal Light Offline: alert when any Portal Light goes offline for 30 minutes.

  • Last Seen: alert when any Anchor Beacon is not seen for more than 24 hours. 

  • Low Battery: alert when 20% of the Anchor Beacons have a battery level below 25%.
