An Alert Rule defines the condition that triggers an alert and who is notified when it does. Asset Tracker sends the alert—by email, SMS text, or to a third-party system through a Webhook—and lists it for staff to view and respond to. Managing Alert Rules requires the Asset Tracker Administrator role.
Alert types
Asset Tracker has three alert types. You choose the type when you create the rule.

| Escalation | Alerts from other rules that still need attention | An assigned alert is not acknowledged, not resolved, or its condition is still active after a configured wait time |
Escalation is a reusable rule that other Alert Rules escalate to, so additional people are notified when an alert still needs attention. For how it works, see About escalation alerts.
When to use a Location alert

How Alert Rules relate to alerts
An Alert Rule is the configuration; the alert is what the rule produces when its condition is met. You create and maintain rules in Settings > Alert Rules; staff view and respond to the alerts those rules trigger in the Alerts list. A rule must be enabled (active) to trigger alerts.
PAR Level alerts depend on PAR Levels being configured first—a rule can only trigger on a Warning or Critical level that already exists for the asset type and location.
