Use this article when a Storage Unit or Room reading excursion did not trigger an alert, or the alert triggered later than expected.
Temperature Monitoring uses delay settings to reduce alerts for brief reading changes, such as a door opening. A threshold alert triggers only when the reading excursion lasts longer than the configured threshold alert delay.
Before you troubleshoot
- Confirm an active Alert Rule covers the Storage Unit or Room. See Troubleshooting: Alert not triggering if you’re not sure.
- Check the measurement history to see when the reading excursion started and how long it lasted.
- Go to Settings > Advanced and confirm the current delay settings.
Causes and resolutions
The reading excursion was shorter than the threshold alert delay
The Threshold alert delay sets how long a Storage Unit or Room reading must remain outside its assigned Threshold Setting before a threshold alert triggers.
If the reading returns to the acceptable range before the delay passes, no threshold alert triggers. This helps reduce alerts caused by brief fluctuations.
- Go to Settings > Advanced and confirm the Threshold alert delay.
- Compare the delay to how long the reading excursion lasted in the measurement history.
- If real excursions are being missed because the delay is too long, ask an Administrator or System Manager to shorten it.
- If brief fluctuations are causing too many alerts, ask an Administrator or System Manager to lengthen it.
Note: For vaccine and medication storage, your facility may require a short delay. Set the delay to match your organization’s policy and regulatory requirements.
The Monitor was within its alert arming delay
The alert arming delay is a short period after a Monitor is installed, comes back online, or receives a configuration update. During this time, threshold alerts are held so readings can stabilize.
A reading excursion during the alert arming delay does not trigger a threshold alert.
- Check whether the Monitor was recently installed, came back online, or received a configuration update around the time of the reading excursion.
- Go to Settings > Advanced and confirm the alert arming delay.
- If the reading excursion occurred during the alert arming delay, no action is needed.
- To change the delay, ask an Administrator or System Manager to update it in Settings > Advanced.
The alert arrived after the configured delay
If the alert appeared later than expected, the timing may reflect the threshold alert delay plus the next reading that confirmed the excursion was still active.
- Check when the reading excursion started.
- Confirm the Threshold alert delay in Settings > Advanced.
- Check when the alert appeared in the Alerts list.
- Compare the alert time against the excursion start time and delay.
If the timing aligns with the configured delay, Temperature Monitoring worked as expected.
If the issue persists
If alerts are missing for reading excursions that lasted longer than the configured delays, collect the following details before contacting Kontakt.io support:
- Storage Unit or Room name
- Alert Rule name
- Time the reading excursion started
- Measurement history showing the excursion
- Threshold alert delay from Settings > Advanced
- Alert arming delay from Settings > Advanced
Then contact Kontakt.io support.
