Troubleshooting: Alert not triggering

Use this article when a Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor shows a condition in the Monitoring view, but no matching alert appears in the Alerts list.

Detection and alert triggering are separate. Temperature Monitoring can detect and record a reading excursion or device issue, but an active Alert Rule must cover that Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor before an alert can trigger and notifications can be sent.

Before you troubleshoot

Confirm the issue first:

• The Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor shows a reading excursion or device issue in the Monitoring view.
• No matching alert appears in the Alerts list.

If the reading or device status looks normal in the Monitoring view, there is no current condition to trigger an alert.

Causes and resolutions

No active Alert Rule covers the Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor

1. Go to Settings > Alert Rules.
2. Check whether an active rule covers the affected Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor for the alert type you expect.
3. If no rule covers it, create a new rule or update an existing one. See Create an Alert Rule.

The status changes from Alert setup required after the Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor is included in an active rule.

The Alert Rule is inactive

1. Go to Settings > Alert Rules.
2. Find the rule.
3. Turn on the rule’s status toggle.

After the rule is active, it can trigger alerts for new matching conditions.

No Threshold Setting is assigned

1. In the Monitoring view, confirm the Storage Unit or Room shows Threshold setup required.
2. Assign a Threshold Setting.

With no Threshold Setting, Temperature Monitoring has no range to compare readings against. As a result, no reading excursion is detected and threshold alerts can’t trigger.

The rule does not cover this Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor

1. Go to Settings > Alert Rules.
2. Open the rule.
3. Confirm the alert type matches the condition:

• A Threshold alert for Storage Unit rule triggers only for Storage Unit reading excursions.
• A Threshold alert for Room rule triggers only for Room reading excursions.
• A Hardware error alert rule triggers only for Monitor hardware or configuration issues.
• A Monitor offline alert rule triggers only when Temperature Monitoring stops receiving data from a Monitor.

4. Confirm the rule’s location includes the affected Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor.
5. Confirm the affected Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor is selected in the rule’s Applies To step.
6. Update the rule, or create a rule of the correct alert type.

The threshold alert delay has not passed

Threshold alerts do not trigger immediately when a reading first goes outside its assigned Threshold Setting. The reading excursion must last longer than the threshold alert delay.

1. Check when the reading excursion started.
2. Go to Settings > Advanced and confirm the Threshold alert delay.
3. Wait for the delay period to pass.
4. Confirm the reading excursion is still active.

If the reading returns to the acceptable range before the delay passes, no threshold alert triggers.

The Monitor is within its alert arming delay

After a Monitor is installed, reconfigured, or reconnects, Temperature Monitoring holds threshold alerts for the alert arming delay so readings can stabilize. During this window, a Storage Unit or Room can show Excursion in the Monitoring view without triggering a threshold alert.

1. Check whether the Monitor was recently installed, reconfigured, or brought back online around the time of the excursion.
2. Go to Settings > Advanced and confirm the Alert arming delay.
3. Wait for the arming delay to pass, measured from the Monitor's last configuration.
4. Confirm the reading excursion is still active. If it is, the threshold alert triggers once the arming delay ends.

The alert arming delay is separate from the threshold alert delay: the arming delay runs after a configuration change, while the threshold alert delay runs each time a reading goes out of range.

The Monitor is paused

Paused mode suppresses threshold alerts. A Monitor is paused automatically during installation or reconfiguration, and a user can also turn on Paused mode directly in Kio Setup Manager. While a Monitor is paused, a reading excursion does not trigger a threshold alert. (Monitor Offline alerts still trigger.)

1. In the Monitoring view, check whether the Storage Unit or Room shows Paused.
2. To check a past excursion, open the Storage Unit or Room and go to Measurement History. The Pause started and Pause ended entries show when monitoring was paused. If the excursion fell within that window, no threshold alert was triggered.
3. To resume threshold alerts, turn off Paused mode for the Monitor in Kio Setup Manager. See Pause a Monitor.

Once Paused mode is off, the Monitor resumes triggering threshold alerts after the alert arming delay passes.

If the issue persists

If a covered, active Alert Rule still does not trigger an alert, collect the following details before contacting Kontakt.io support:

• Storage Unit, Room, or Monitor name
• Alert Rule name
• Alert type
• Time the reading excursion or device issue was observed
• Current status shown in the Monitoring view
