Advanced Preferences are the company-wide settings that govern how every Monitor records readings and how quickly excursions become alerts. By default, they apply across all Storage Units and Rooms, so a change affects the whole company rather than a single Storage Unit or Room. Facilities that enable additional preferences by location can also override these defaults for an individual department.
Most facilities set Advanced Preferences once during the initial setup and adjust them rarely.
What you can set

Two delays that are easy to confuse
The out-of-threshold delay and the alert arming delay both hold alerts back, but for different reasons:
- The out-of-threshold delay waits to see whether a reading that just went out of range stays out of range. It prevents alerts from brief fluctuations, such as a Storage Unit door opening. For vaccine and medication storage, a short delay of 1 to 5 minutes is typical.
- The alert arming delay waits after a Monitor begins reporting (following installation, reconnection, or a configuration change) so readings can stabilize before alerts can trigger.
Two logging rates
A Monitor records more often when something is wrong. The logging rate within threshold keeps a steady baseline record while readings are normal. The logging rate out of threshold captures more readings during an excursion. When a reading stays out of threshold for 60 consecutive seconds, it is sent regardless of the logging rate, so an excursion is never delayed by the logging interval.
Things to know before changing settings
- Changing the temperature unit affects how new readings are shown. It does not convert readings already recorded, and previously generated reports keep their original unit.
- A change to a logging rate or delay is synchronized to every Monitor over the next several minutes. Monitors show Syncing while the change applies, and keep logging locally so no data is lost.
Preferences for a single department
By default, Advanced Preferences are company-wide. Your organization's Kio account can also be configured to allow an optional capability that allows a System Manager to override the company-wide defaults for individual departments. On the Advanced preferences page it appears as the Additional preferences by location section.
This capability is available only when your organization's Kio account has it enabled. When it is off, the section does not appear and preferences are company-wide with no per-department option.
When it is on:
- A System Manager selects Add override and chooses the Department the override applies to. You can override any Advanced Preference for that department — temperature unit, logging rate within and out of threshold, out-of-threshold (threshold alert) delay, and alert arming delay.
- Each field starts pre-filled with the company default. Leave a field as is to inherit the company value, or change it to set a department-specific value.
- The department an override applies to is fixed when the override is created and cannot be changed afterward.
- Each department override appears as a row listing its values; any field left at the system default is shown as Company default.
- Reverting an override removes it and returns the department to the company-wide preferences.
Who can change them
Only the System Manager role can access Advanced Preferences, to view or change them. No other role, including the Administrator, can access the Advanced preferences page. This is the main capability that separates the System Manager from the Administrator. See Temperature Monitoring user roles.
