This reference explains each check in the Portal Light diagnostic report, what a failure means, and what to do. Run the diagnostic report from the device's action menu in Kio Setup Manager. See Run a Portal Light diagnostic report for steps.
Connectivity checks
| Check |
What it verifies |
If failed |
| API connection |
Portal Light can reach and authenticate with the Kio Cloud API |
Verify Wi-Fi is connected and the network has internet access. Check whether a firewall is blocking outbound traffic to Kio Cloud. If the certificate is expired, run Update certificate. |
| Event collect connection |
Portal Light can send collected BLE event data to Kio Cloud |
Same as API connection — both require internet access. If API connection passes but this fails, contact Kontakt.io support. |
| IP address |
Portal Light has been assigned an IP address by the network |
The Portal Light connected to Wi-Fi but the DHCP server did not assign an address. Verify the network's DHCP server is active and has available addresses. |
| Time synchronization |
Portal Light's clock is synchronized with the configured NTP server |
The NTP server is unreachable from this network. Verify the NTP server address is correct and accessible. If your network uses an internal NTP server, confirm the address with your IT team and use Configure NTP to update it. |
| Connected to Wi-Fi |
Portal Light is connected to its configured Wi-Fi network |
Wi-Fi credentials are incorrect, the network is out of range, or the network is unavailable. Use Configure network to re-enter credentials. |
| Connected to fallback |
Portal Light is connected to its fallback network (if configured) |
Informational if a fallback network is not configured. If a fallback was intended, verify the fallback network credentials. |
Network visibility checks
| Check |
What it shows |
What to do |
| Main network visible |
Whether the configured Wi-Fi network (SSID) is detectable by the Portal Light |
If not visible: the Portal Light is out of range of the access point, or the SSID is not broadcasting. Move the Portal Light closer to the access point, or verify the SSID is correct. |
| Main network RSSI |
Signal strength of the configured Wi-Fi network in dBm |
Values weaker than approximately −70 dBm indicate a weak signal. Relocate the Portal Light or access point to improve signal strength. A Weak Wi-Fi signal warning in Device Health indicates the signal is insufficient for reliable operation. |
| Fallback network visible |
Whether the fallback Wi-Fi network is detectable |
Only relevant if a fallback network is configured. |
| Fallback network RSSI |
Signal strength of the fallback Wi-Fi network |
See main network RSSI guidance above. |
| Nearby networks |
List of all Wi-Fi networks the Portal Light can detect, with their SSID and signal strength |
Use this list to confirm the target network is visible to the device and to compare signal strengths between available networks. |
Configuration checks
| Check |
What it verifies |
If failed |
| Provisioned |
Portal Light has a valid configuration that allows normal operation |
The device has not completed installation or its configuration was lost. Run the full installation workflow to re-provision the device. |
Device Health error states
The following errors may appear on the Portal Light entry in Device Management or on the Home screen in Kio Setup Manager when the device reports a problem:
| Error |
Meaning |
Action |
| Device is in error state |
The Portal Light is degraded and cannot operate normally |
Run Fetch diagnostic report to identify the specific failed check, then follow the relevant resolution above. |
| Not connected to network |
Portal Light cannot connect to its configured Wi-Fi network |
Verify network availability and credentials. Use Configure network to update. |
| IP not assigned |
Portal Light connected to Wi-Fi but has no IP address |
Check the DHCP server on the network. |
| NTP not connected |
Portal Light cannot reach the NTP time server |
Verify NTP server address. Use Configure NTP to update. |
| Device not provisioned |
No valid operating configuration present |
Re-run the installation workflow. |
| Cannot connect to Device Management |
Portal Light cannot reach the Kio Cloud device management service |
Verify internet access from the Portal Light's network. Check for firewall rules blocking outbound traffic. |
| Weak Wi-Fi signal |
Wi-Fi RSSI is below the threshold for reliable operation |
Relocate the Portal Light closer to the access point, or add an access point to improve coverage. |
| Connected to fallback network |
Portal Light is using the fallback network instead of the main network |
Verify the main network is available and credentials are correct. |
