A Sticker Tag must be activated in Kio Entity Manager before it can be assigned to an asset. Activation is a one-time step that marks the tag as ready to use and saves a note in the tag's profile in Device Management. The same workflow runs in Kio Setup Manager — use whichever app you already have open.
Note: Activate Sticker Tag is available on iPhone and Android only. It does not appear on iPad because iPad has no NFC reader.
Before you begin
- Signed in to Kio Entity Manager on an iPhone or an Android phone with NFC
- The Sticker Tag is in Device Management inventory. Devices are added to inventory by claiming the Order ID from the Kontakt.io packaging or order confirmation email in Device Management.
- NFC is on in your mobile device's OS settings
- Bluetooth is on
- Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)
Steps
On the Select Action screen, tap Activate Sticker Tag.
Hold your mobile device near the Sticker Tag until it scans. The phone reads the tag's MAC address over NFC.
Note: On Android, this workflow uses NFC only — there is no QR fallback. On a tablet without NFC, the action opens but cannot finish. On iPhone, you can enter the MAC manually as a fallback if the NFC read fails.
Wait for the verification step to finish. The app confirms the Sticker Tag exists in Kio Cloud.
On the summary screen, review the tag's details. The note field is filled in with an auto-generated activation note. Edit it if you need to add detail.
Tap Next.
Wait for the update step to finish.
What happens next
The app shows the success screen with the option to Activate another tag or Exit. The tag's profile in Device Management now carries the activation note. On Android, your signed-in name and email are also saved on the profile.
Important: If the scanned Sticker Tag is not in Device Management inventory, the workflow still ends at the success screen and the app does not show a "not found" error. Confirm the tag appears in Device Management before you treat the activation as final. If the tag is missing, claim its Order ID in Device Management, then run Activate Sticker Tag again.
After activation, use Assign Tag to Asset to assign the Sticker Tag to an asset.
