Set up a parking lot

A parking lot is a building type in Smart Location, alongside the standard building. It holds parking levels instead of standard floors. Each parking level is a single location area — you don't draw individual parking spaces or rooms on it. Set up a parking lot to extend Staff Safe coverage across an outdoor lot or a parking structure, so Staff Safe can locate a staff member who activates a duress alert in a parking area. Parking lots are used only by Staff Safe.

A parking lot can be one of two types:

• Single-Level: a single parking surface, such as a ground lot.
• Multi-Level: a parking structure with more than one level.

Before you begin

• Signed in to Kio Cloud with the Smart Location Administrator or Creator role
• Campus created in Smart Location
• A parking lot plan image for each level (JPG, PNG, BMP, or TIFF)

Step 1: Add the parking lot to a campus

1. Open Smart Location from the Kio Cloud Launchpad.
2. In the navigation, select Campuses and open the campus where the parking lot will be added.
3. Select Add Parking Lot.
4. Enter a Name for the parking lot.
5. Choose the Type:
   • Single-Level for a single parking surface (such as a ground lot).
   • Multi-Level for a parking structure with more than one level.
6. For a Single-Level lot, upload the parking-lot plan image here — its one level is created together with the lot, as a single location area. (A Multi-Level lot has no plan at this step; you add each level and its plan next.)
7. Set the parking lot's address. By default, it uses the same address as its campus. Clear that option to enter a different address; the address positions the parking lot on the map.
8. Select Save.

The parking lot appears under the campus in the navigation.

Step 2 (Multi-Level only): Add parking levels

A single-level parking lot already has its one level from Step 1 — skip to Step 3. For a multi-level parking lot, add a level for each parking surface and upload its plan image.

1. Open the parking lot and select Add floor.
2. Enter a Name for the level and the Level number (0 for the ground level, 1 for the next level up, and so on).
3. Upload the level's plan image.
4. Select Save.
5. Repeat for each level.

Step 3: Add gateways to each level

A parking level is covered by its gateways — there are no parking spaces to draw and no sensors to place. On each parking level, add the gateways that cover the lot.

1. Open the level and open the Gateways tab.
2. Add each gateway and position it on the plan.
3. Save.

For the full gateway workflow, see Manage gateways on a floor. The gateways provide the location coverage that Staff Safe uses across the lot.

What happens next

Once a parking level has gateway coverage, Staff Safe can locate a staff member within the lot. When a staff member activates a duress alert in the lot, their location is reported — extending staff-safety coverage into parking areas.
