When you move a Portal Beam within its assigned room or relocate it to a different room, install it again from the Kio Setup Manager mobile app. Installing it again updates the beam's room in Cisco Spaces and lets you recalibrate the room.
Important: Always move or relocate a Portal Beam from Kio Setup Manager. After a Portal Beam is installed from the app, changing its room in Cisco Spaces Space Manager doesn't change the room the beam counts occupancy for.
Before you begin
Before you begin, make sure the following are complete:
Kio Setup Manager for iPhone or iPad is installed, with iOS 17 or later. Room calibration is available only in the iPhone or iPad app.
You are signed in to the app with Cisco Spaces Account.
Bluetooth is on, and your iPhone or iPad is connected to the internet over Wi-Fi or cellular data.
You reviewed the Portal Beam placement and coverage area guidelines and ceiling mount instructions for the new position.
If you're relocating the Portal Beam to a different room, you know which room it's moving from and how many Portal Beams will be left in that room.
Reinstall the Portal Beam
-
Take down the Portal Beam:
Moving within its room: take it to the new position in the same room and mount it to the ceiling.
Relocating to a different room: bring it to the new room and mount it to the ceiling.
-
From Kio Setup Manager, tap Devices > from Nearby Devices, tap the Portal Beam by its MAC address or Unique ID.
(Optional) To confirm you selected the right Portal Beam, tap Show Details > Flash LED. A colored LED flashes briefly on the front of the beam.
Tap Install Your Device > from Choose location, tap the campus, building, floor, and room. When moving within a room, choose the Portal Beam's current room. When relocating, choose the room it's moving to.
-
Tap Next.
If the room already has a room calibration, the app displays Existing Room Calibration Found. Tap Remove Calibration and Continue > Remove.
From Verify Thermal Camera, tap Capture Image > tap the cloud icon to upload the thermal image to the Kontakt.io Device Management Plugin.
-
Review the captured image for hot objects in the room. To exclude a non-human, stationary hot object or area from occupancy detection, tap Add Exclusion Zone. Then tap Next.
The app keeps the Portal Beam's existing Exclusion Zones. They may not match what the beam detects from its new position or room, so review them before you continue.
-
Review the device note saved to the Portal Beam's profile in the Kontakt.io Device Management Plugin, and add any information about the move > tap Next. The app displays Installation Success!
To view the device note later, open the Device Management Plugin URL for your Cisco Spaces account region:
United States region: https://plugin-app.cloud.us.kontakt.io/device-management/
Europe region: https://plugin-app.cloud.uk.kontakt.io/device-management/
-
If the room has more than one Portal Beam, tap Perform room calibration and complete the room survey. For the room survey steps, see Deployment guide: Portal Beam room occupancy with Cisco Spaces, Step 6.
A room with one Portal Beam doesn't need calibration.
-
If you relocated the Portal Beam to a different room, update the calibration of the room it moved from:
More than one Portal Beam left: recalibrate the room.
One Portal Beam left: delete the room calibration.
No Portal Beams left: no update is needed.
For these steps, see Troubleshoot Portal Beam room occupancy, Recalibrate a room with more than one Portal Beam and Delete a room calibration.
-
From Cisco Spaces Space Manager, go to Manage Rooms > select the room > from Room Details, go to IoT sensors > verify the Portal Beam is listed.
If the Portal Beam isn't listed, install it again from Kio Setup Manager (step 3).
Result
The Portal Beam is listed in its room in Space Manager and counts occupancy for that room from its new position. If you relocated the beam, set the new room's Capacity in Space Manager if it isn't set. Then validate the room's occupancy. See Deployment guide: Portal Beam room occupancy with Cisco Spaces, Steps 8 and 9.
