When a Kontakt.io Smart Badge is lost, damaged, or returned to Kontakt.io under warranty, assign the staff member a new one. The assigned badge is what delivers their real-time location when they activate an alert, so a clean replacement matters. If a damaged badge is being disposed of, follow your organization's electronic device disposal policy.
Before you begin, make sure the following are complete:
You are assigned the Staff Safe Administrator or User role.
You are assigned a Device Management role. Updating a badge's Deployment Status is done in Device Management.
You have the new badge in hand and its 12-character MAC address, printed on the badge.
Tip: Write down the MAC address of both badges before you start. If the badge being replaced is lost, you can read its MAC address from the staff member's profile while assigning the new one.
Assign the new badge to staff
From your Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Staff Safe.
From the Settings menu, select Staff.
Locate the staff member whose badge is being replaced.
-
Select their Staff ID or Name.
Their profile opens.
From the upper-right corner, select Edit.
In the Assigned Tag section, select the current tag, then select Clear filter.
-
Search for the new badge's 12-character MAC address and select it.
Select Save.
Update the Deployment Status of each badge
A badge's Deployment Status represents where it is in its lifecycle:
Deployed — in use and assigned
To be Deployed — available inventory that can be assigned
End of life — no longer in use or disposed of
Device Health uses this status to monitor badge battery levels, and only badges set to Deployed are actively monitored.
Note: If you assigned the new badge with the Kio Entity Manager mobile app, its Deployment Status is already Deployed — you only need to update the badge that was replaced. Assigning from the web does not change Deployment Status, so complete both updates below.
From your Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Device Management.
From the Inventory menu, select Tags.
-
In Search Devices, enter the new badge's MAC address, select its ID, and on the General tab set Deployment Status to Deployed. Select Save.
In Search Devices, enter the replaced badge's MAC address, select its ID, and on the General tab set Deployment Status to End of life if it is being returned or disposed of. Select Save.
Verify the replacement
Testing confirms the new badge is linked to both the staff member and their Alert Rule.
-
Activate a test alert from the new badge.
By factory default this is three button presses in quick succession, though your organization may have configured a different count or button.
Resolve the alert, set its Resolution Code to Test, and add a note recording that you tested a replacement badge.
If no alert was activated, confirm the staff member is covered by an Alert Rule and that the rule's button event — blue, red, or any button — matches the button you pressed.
The staff member can now signal for help with their new badge.
