After adding staff to Staff Safe, they must be assigned to their Kontakt.io Smart Badge — a process also known as provisioning a badge (or badge distribution). Once assigned, staff can activate an alert from their badge. This enables responders to intervene, de-escalate situations, and provide assistance when it matters most.
Things to know
You must be assigned to the Staff Safe Administrator or User role.
Be sure to have the Smart Badge on hand. Each badge has a unique MAC address, printed on the badge itself, that is required when assigning the badge to staff.
Once assigned, be sure that the staff is associated with an Alert Rule. You can complete a test alert after the badge has been assigned.
You can also assign staff to their badge from the Kio Entity Manager mobile app.
Step 1: Verify Smart Badge is powered on
It's important to verify a badge is powered on at the time the badge is being distributed to a staff member. Smart Badges are shipped powered ON by default. If a badge was shipped powered OFF, the packaging includes an ACTIVATION REQUIRED BEFORE USE insert.
Note: Depending on your organization's button-press configuration, handling a badge that is assigned to staff and included in an Alert Rule could activate an alert.

Press and quickly release the blue or red button. The button's LED will blink continuously for a few seconds—which is your confirmation that it is powered ON and ready for use.
If its LED does not blink, follow the below instructions to power it ON.
Press and hold the blue or red button (for approximately 5 to 7 seconds) until you see the BLUE LED illuminate > then release the button.

Step 2: Assign a badge to staff
Before a Kontakt.io badge is distributed to a staff member, they must be assigned to the badge. Each badge has a Unique ID and MAC address, which is printed on the badge's holder, non-button side.
With the badge in hand, complete the following steps from Staff Safe.
From your Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Staff Safe.
From the Settings menu, select Staff.
From the list, locate the staff.
Select their Staff ID or Name. Their profile is displayed.
From the upper-right corner, select Edit.
From the Assigned Tag section, search for the badge's 12-character MAC address or Unique ID > select the badge.
Verify that the badge's MAC address or Unique ID is correct.
Select Save.
To verify the badge assignment and the staff is associated to an alert rule, it's recommended to activate a test alert from the badge. Once the alert is activated, you can resolve the alert and set its Resolution Code to Test and log a note indicating testing badge assignment and operation. If an alert was not activated from a button press (by factory default, three times in quick succession), verify the staff is associated to an Alert Rule and the button press that triggers an alert (blue, red, or any button).
