To enable a staff member to activate a duress alert, their Kontakt.io Smart Badge must be assigned to them. This process—also known as provisioning a badge—links the staff member's staff ID within Staff Safe to their badge. This article explains how to assign Smart Badges using the Kio Entity Manager mobile app.
Prerequisites
You must be assigned to the Entity Manager Mobile User role.
-
The staff member has been added to Staff Safe and you have their Staff ID (Entity ID).
The Kio Entity Manager app also allows you to scan a barcode containing the Staff ID for quick assignment.
-
The Kio Entity Manager app is installed on your mobile device.
To install the app, go to the App Store or Google Play > search for Kio Entity Manager.
App requirements: Apple iPhone or iPad: iOS version 17 or later | Android phone or tablet: version 8 or later | Bluetooth enabled (on) | Internet connection
Step 1: Verify Smart Badge is powered on
It's important to verify a badge is powered on at the time the badge is being distributed to a staff member. Smart Badges are shipped powered ON by default. If a badge was shipped powered OFF, the packaging includes an ACTIVATION REQUIRED BEFORE USE insert.
Note: Depending on your organization's button-press configuration, handling a badge that is assigned to staff and included in an Alert Rule could activate an alert.
Smart Badge 3
Press and quickly release the blue or red button. The button's LED will blink continuously for a few seconds—which is your confirmation that it is powered ON and ready for use.
If its LED does not blink, follow the below instructions to power it ON.
Press and hold the blue or red button (for approximately 5 to 7 seconds) until you see the BLUE LED illuminate > then release the button.
Smart Badge 3 Mini
Press and quickly release the red button. The button’s LED will blink continuously for a few seconds— which is your confirmation that it is powered ON and ready for use.
-
If its LED does not blink, follow the below instructions to power it ON.
Press and hold the red button (for approximately 5 to 7 seconds) until you see a LED illuminate > then release the button.
Step 2: Assign badge to staff
From your mobile device, open the Kio Entity Manager app.
-
From the Region, select the location of your organization's Kontakt.io account.
United States: located in North America or Japan-Asia Pacific locations.
United Kingdom: located in the UK, EU, and other European countries.
Do not select Other, unless directed by Kontakt.io.
Sign in with your user credentials. Follow the same process you use to sign in through a web browser. For accounts integrated with your organization's SSO provider, select this option. Otherwise, log in with your email and password.
From Select actions, tap Assign Badge to Staff > follow the guided steps.
-
Scan the QR code located on the Kontakt.io Smart Badge.
-
If you have a company provided badge with a printed barcode containing their Staff ID (Entity ID) scan the barcode now, or tap Enter Staff ID to enter their ID.
-
An assignment Summary is displayed.
The Device Note is automatically stored in the tag's profile in Device Management. You can update the note as needed.
When you assign a badge in the Kio Entity Manager app, its Deployment Status in Device Management is automatically set to Deployed — you don't need to set it manually.
-
A Success confirmation is displayed.
You can continue to assign additional badges to staff.
Tip: To verify the badge assignment and the staff is associated to an alert rule, it's recommended to activate a test alert from the badge. Once the alert is activated, you can resolve the alert and set its Resolution Code to Test and log a note indicating testing badge assignment and operation. If an alert was not activated from a button press (by factory default, three times in quick succession), verify the staff is associated to an Alert Rule and the button press that triggers an alert (blue, red, or any button).
