To replace a Kontakt.io tag assigned to an asset, you will need to assign the new tag to the asset. This process is typically performed when an asset's current assigned tag is damaged or lost, a tag was assigned in error, or the asset in use today is being replaced with a new asset.
Things to know
You must be assigned to the Asset Tracker User or Administrator role. See About user access to Asset Tracker.
If you are replacing an asset with a new asset, you must first unassign the current tag assigned to the asset being replaced. This will allow you to assign the tag to the new asset.
You will need a tag's 12-character MAC address. You can find this printed on the side or back side of a tag.
Sticker Tag: Equipped with NFC technology, this tag model must always be activated for use and assigned to an asset using the Kio Entity Manager mobile app. See Tagging assets with the Kio Entity Manager mobile app.
Properly attaching a tag to an asset and its placement is important. Learn more in Asset Tag placement guidelines and instructions.
Step 1: Verify the Asset Tag is powered on
By default, Kontakt.io Asset Tags arrive from Kontakt.io powered ON. Although, for large or custom orders the tags may be shipped with their power OFF.
To verify if an Asset Tag is powered ON, press and quickly release a button located on its front side. If the tag's LED not blink, follow the below steps to power it ON.
Asset Tag 2: Press and hold either the blue or red button for 5 seconds. Once you observe the LED blinking, this indicates that the tag is powered ON.
Asset Tag 2 Mini: Press and hold its front-side button for 5 seconds. Once you observe the LED blinking, this indicates the tag is powered ON.
Step 2: Update the tag assigned to the asset
From your Kontakt.io Launchpad, select Asset Tracker.
From the left menu, select Asset Management.
From the list of assets, locate the asset > select its Asset ID or Asset Name. Its profile is displayed.
-
Select Edit > from its Assigned Tag setting, search by the tag's Unique ID or full MAC address > select the tag.
The asset's current tag appears in the list with a (currently assigned) label; choose a different tag to replace it.
Select Save.
You can now attach the tag to the asset. See Asset Tag placement guidelines and instructions.
To verify the asset was properly tagged and its location data is being received, wait up to 5 minutes and then refresh the page to view the asset's location and verify the tag's status is Online. Online indicates Kio Cloud has received the tags' location data within the last 5 minutes. The tag must be within range of a BLE to Wi-Fi gateway device, such as a Kontakt.io Portal Light or other BLE-compatible Access Point.
