Best practices
Use architectural floor plans where possible. Floor plans from a building management system or architect are drawn to scale and produce the most accurate calibration. If an architectural plan is not available, a hand-drawn or photographed plan can work but requires careful calibration.
Balance clarity against the size limit. Heavily compressed JPGs introduce artifacts that make it harder to accurately place room boundary points, especially at corners and doorways. Choose the clearest image that still fits under 1 MB; PNG is often smaller than TIFF for the same plan.
Measure calibration points before uploading. The scale calibration step requires a real-world distance between two identifiable points on the image. Measure this in advance. Choose two points that are far apart and easy to identify precisely on the plan: column centers, room corners, or ends of a known corridor.
