A Room in Temperature Monitoring is a space whose ambient temperature and humidity you monitor, such as a clean room, a medication room, or a laboratory. Where a Storage Unit measures conditions inside a unit, a Room measures conditions in the space itself.
Rooms come from Smart Location
You do not create Rooms in Temperature Monitoring. Rooms are part of your facility map in Kio Cloud Smart Location, where they are located within a campus, building, floor, and department. Temperature Monitoring uses those existing rooms.
Because of this, a Room appears in Temperature Monitoring only after a Monitor is installed for it and assigned to monitor the room. Before that, the room exists in Smart Location but has no presence in Temperature Monitoring.
This explains a common surprise during setup — a room you can see in Smart Location does not appear when you try to add it to an Alert Rule. Install the Monitor for that room first, and the Room appears in Temperature Monitoring automatically.
How a Room is monitored
A Room is monitored by a Monitor's internal ambient sensor, not by an external probe. Both Temp Monitor Pro and Temp Monitor Lite can monitor a Room. When a Monitor is installed for room monitoring, the installer assigns it to the room and gives it a Threshold Setting for the room's acceptable range.
How a Room fits with other configuration
- A Room must have a department assigned in Smart Location before a Monitor can be installed for it. The department determines how the room is grouped for monitoring and reporting.
- A Room receives a Threshold Setting that defines its acceptable ambient range.
- A Room is included in an Alert Rule so its excursions notify someone. A Room not in any rule shows Alert setup required.
