Recalibration re-establishes the Portal Beam's thermal baseline — the reference point the camera uses to distinguish people from the background environment. Run a recalibration when detection accuracy has degraded, after the physical environment has changed significantly (furniture moved, new equipment added), or when Verify thermal camera shows unexpected detection results.
Before you begin
- Signed in to Kio Setup Manager with the Device Management role
- Portal Beam is powered on and within Bluetooth range of your mobile device
- The space the Portal Beam monitors is empty of people during recalibration — the camera establishes a background baseline, and any people present during this step will be included in that baseline, reducing detection accuracy
Steps
Confirm the space the Portal Beam monitors is clear of people.
Open the device detail view for the Portal Beam:
- Tap Devices > Nearby and select it from the list, or
- Tap Scan and scan the QR code on the device label
Tap the actions menu and select Recalibrate thermal camera.
Note: You can also access this from the Tools screen — tap Tools, select Beam Troubleshooting, then select Recalibrate Thermal Camera.
Kio Setup Manager connects to the Portal Beam over Bluetooth. Progress messages appear:
- Looking for nearby device
- Verifying nearby device
- Calibration in progress...
Wait for the calibration to complete. Do not move the Portal Beam or allow people to enter the monitored space during this step.
When the success confirmation appears, the recalibration is complete.
What happens next
The Portal Beam stores the new baseline on-device. Detection accuracy should improve immediately. Run Verify thermal camera to confirm the camera now shows correct detection with the updated calibration.
If detection accuracy remains poor after recalibration, consider whether the physical placement of the Portal Beam needs adjustment — the camera's field of view and mounting height both affect detection quality.
