Thermal camera verification checks that the Portal Beam's thermal camera is functioning and shows you a live thermal image with detection overlay. Run this after installation to confirm the camera has a clear view of the space and detection regions are aligned correctly, or any time you want to check that the camera is operating normally.
Before you begin
- Signed in to Kio Setup Manager with the Device Management role
- Portal Beam is powered on and within Bluetooth range of your mobile device
Steps
Open the device detail view for the Portal Beam:
- Tap Devices > Nearby and select it from the list, or
- Tap Scan and scan the QR code on the device label
Tap the actions menu and select Verify thermal camera.
Note: You can also access this from the Tools screen — tap Tools, select Beam Troubleshooting, then select Verify Thermal Camera.
Kio Setup Manager connects to the Portal Beam over Bluetooth. Progress messages appear:
- Looking for nearby device
- Verifying nearby device
- Fetching calibration data
- Fetching thermal image
Review the thermal image displayed:
- The image shows the thermal view from the camera's perspective
- Detection boxes appear overlaid on any people or objects currently detected
- Confirm the camera has a clear view of the intended monitoring area
What to look for
A successful verification shows a thermal image with accurate detection overlays. If the image is blank, shows unexpected heat sources in the detection area, or detection boxes appear in unexpected locations, consider whether the device placement needs adjustment or whether a recalibration is needed.
If the verification fails with an error, confirm Bluetooth is enabled and you are close to the device, then retry. If errors persist, run Recalibrate thermal camera.
What happens next
No configuration changes are made during verification — it is diagnostic only. If the camera view reveals a placement issue, physically adjust the device and re-run verification. If detection accuracy seems off, run Recalibrate thermal camera.
