This reference defines the terms used throughout Asset Tracker. The terms build on each other: a Tag is attached to an asset, an asset belongs to an Asset Type, Room Matching gives the asset a status as it moves, and an Alert Rule decides who is notified.
Core entities
| Term |
Definition |
| Asset |
A piece of tracked equipment. Each asset has a profile holding its settings, its assigned Tag, and its location details. Assets are also managed in Company Settings and Entity Manager, where they are called Entities. |
| Asset Group |
An optional way to segment assets beyond their Asset Type. An asset can belong to one or several groups, and groups can be searched by and assigned to Alert Rules. |
| Asset Type |
The category an asset belongs to, used for metrics and configuration. Every asset must have one Asset Type and can have only one. Also managed in Company Settings, where Asset Types are called Entity Types. |
| Tag |
The Kontakt.io device attached to an asset so it can be located. One Tag is assigned to one asset. |
Configuration
| Term |
Definition |
| Alert Rule |
The configuration that decides who is notified, and how, when an asset enters or exits a location or a PAR Level is reached. A rule sets the alert type (Location or PAR Levels), the locations covered, the assets or Asset Types covered, and the notification recipients. |
| Assigned Home Location |
The campus or building, and optionally the department, that an asset belongs to. Used by the Assets Search filters and by analytics — for example, to find assets that are away from where they belong. It does not restrict which assets a person can see. |
| PAR Level |
Periodical Automatic Replenishment. The target and critical quantities of an Asset Type that should be present in a location, tracked by floor and by the Room Types and rooms within that floor. |
| Preventative maintenance |
The maintenance schedule set on an asset, including its next scheduled maintenance date, so assets due or overdue for service can be found before they fail. |
| Rental |
Tracking for assets your organization rents, covering how many are in use, how long they have been out, and when they are due back. |
| Room Matching |
The pairing of each Smart Location room with a Room Type. Once a room is matched, Asset Tracker knows which room-level status rules to apply as assets move between rooms. Managed in Company Settings; view-only in Asset Tracker. |
| Room Type |
A category of area within a facility, such as Clean Storage or Patient Room. Each Room Type can carry Entity Type Rules by Asset Type, which set the status an asset takes when it enters a matching room. Managed in Company Settings; view-only in Asset Tracker. |
Note: An asset's Assigned Home Location is not the same as a user's assigned home location. Asset Tracker roles are scoped by campus only, so a person's home location has no effect on which assets they can see. See About user access to Asset Tracker.
Alerts
| Term |
Definition |
| Acknowledge |
The action a responder takes to confirm they have seen an active alert and are handling it. |
| Alert |
A notification that an Alert Rule's monitored condition has been met — for example, an asset leaving a location, or a PAR Level reaching its critical quantity. An alert stays active until someone resolves it. |
| Alert status |
Where an alert is in the response: New, Acknowledged, or Resolved. Every status change is logged for reporting and analytics. |
| Resolve |
The action that closes an alert after it has been addressed. Resolving moves the alert to Alerts History. |
Status and reporting
| Term |
Definition |
| Analytics |
The insights and metrics drawn from tracked assets, including utilization, PAR Levels, and rentals. |
| Asset status |
The current state of an asset — Available, Utilized, Unavailable, Down, or Unknown. Set manually, or automatically by Room Management rules as the asset moves between rooms. |
| Utilization |
How much an asset is actually in use over time, used to identify under-used and over-used equipment. |
