This reference describes the Settings page, where administrators set the rules that turn patient room visits into Hand Hygiene opportunities and define what counts as compliant.
Where it is, and who has access
The Settings page is under Settings in the Hand Hygiene web app. Only Administrators can change these settings, and the change applies to the whole account.
When to use this
Adjust these settings during initial deployment, when clinical workflows change, or when you want to tune what Hand Hygiene considers compliant. Historical data is not recalculated when you change these settings. The new rules apply to opportunities going forward only.
Hand Hygiene Configuration card
The first card on the page, Hand Hygiene Configuration, contains the Opportunity Configuration section, with three settings that control how visits become opportunities and how dispense events are credited.
| Setting | What it controls | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum Visit Duration | The minimum time a Smart Badge must be in a room for the visit to become a hand hygiene opportunity. Visits shorter than this do not count. | 0–300 seconds, in steps of 10 |
| Valid Wash-In Period: Before Entrance | How long before room entry a dispense event can count as the wash-in. For example, sanitizing in the corridor a few seconds before walking in. | 0–120 seconds, in steps of 5 |
| Valid Wash-Out Period: After Leaving | How long after room exit a dispense event can count as the wash-out. For example, sanitizing in the corridor a few seconds after leaving. | 0–120 seconds, in steps of 5 |
Each setting is adjusted with a slider. The slider shows its current value in seconds, for example 120 sec.
Compliance Thresholds section
The Compliance Thresholds section of the Hand Hygiene Configuration card defines the performance zones used to color compliance results on the Compliance Analytics page. It has a single range slider with two handles, and the helper text "Drag the handles to adjust the boundaries between Good, Okay, and Needs Work zones." The two handles split the 0–100% range into three zones, and each handle moves in steps of 5%.
| Zone | Range | Color on the Compliance Analytics page |
|---|---|---|
| Needs Work | Below the lower handle | Red |
| Okay | Between the two handles | Yellow |
| Good | At or above the Good handle | Green |
The lower handle sets the Needs Work/Okay boundary; the Good handle sets the Okay/Good boundary, which is your full-compliance target. A colored bar previews the effect, and a legend shows the current range for each zone, for example Needs Work (<70%), Okay (70–90%), and Good (Target ≥90%).
The rankings panel in Compliance Analytics reflects these thresholds: scores in the yellow zone appear with warning styling, scores in the red zone appear with alert styling.
The Good handle also sets the target line on the Compliance Over Time chart. These thresholds do not change the underlying compliance calculation. They change how compliance results are colored and flagged across the app.
Dispensers Configuration card
The Settings page also has a Dispensers Configuration card with a Low Refill Threshold control. This sets the dispenser refill level, as a percentage of full capacity, below which a dispenser is flagged as low on refill. The default is 25%. For how this threshold appears against each dispenser, see About dispenser management.
Edit mode
The page opens in read-only mode. To change settings:
- Select Edit.
- Adjust the sliders.
- Select Save to apply the changes, or Cancel to discard them.
Changes take effect immediately for new opportunities and compliance calculations. They do not change opportunities that have already been recorded.
Example scenario
This example shows how the settings apply to a single visit.
Configuration:
- Minimum Visit Duration: 120 seconds
- Valid Wash-In Period (Before Entrance): 90 seconds
- Valid Wash-Out Period (After Leaving): 90 seconds
Scenario:
A staff member uses a sanitizer 60 seconds before entering a patient room, stays in the room for 5 minutes, and leaves without using a sanitizer in the 90 seconds after exit.
Result:
- The 5-minute visit exceeds the 120-second Minimum Visit Duration, so it becomes a Hand Hygiene opportunity.
- The dispense event 60 seconds before entry falls inside the 90-second Valid Wash-In Period, so the wash-in is credited as Done.
- No dispense event occurs in the 90 seconds after leaving, so the wash-out is Unfulfilled.
- The opportunity is Partial, with a score of 50%. On the Compliance Analytics page it counts at half credit in Overall Compliance, and toward Any: but not Full:. See About compliance.
