Indoor navigation adds live positioning to Kio Nurse Assistant. Where a site has it, the app knows where you are standing, not just which floor you told it you are on — so it can measure how far away equipment is and walk you to it.
It is a capability your site has, not a feature of the app. Most of what the app does works without it.
What it adds
A blue dot that moves — Your own position appears on the floor plan and follows you as you walk.
Distance and walk time — Every result shows how far away it is and how long it takes to reach, measured from where you are standing rather than from the floor you selected.
Walk me there — Open a piece of equipment and tap Walk me there. The route draws on the floor plan with turn-by-turn directions, and the app tells you when you have arrived. On a route that crosses floors, the map draws one leg at a time and says the route continues after the lift.
What it needs
Indoor navigation depends on three things, and all three have to be true:
- Your organization has it enabled for that location. Kontakt.io sets this up per site, including drawing the walkable routes the app follows. It is not on by default.
- You are using an iPhone. The Android app has no indoor navigation.
- Bluetooth is turned on on your phone, along with location permission.
Without all three, the app uses manual location mode, which is the normal experience at most sites.
How to tell which mode you are in
Open Settings and look under Positioning:
- IPS — indoor navigation is active. You see the blue dot, distances, and walk times.
- Manual location — the app uses the workplace you set. The reason appears with it, such as This account has no indoor positioning or {Building} has no indoor map.
In manual location mode you also see a MANUAL label beside your location on the Find tab.
When navigation is not available
Indoor navigation degrades rather than fails. If the app cannot route you, it says why and falls back to the written directions, which are always there:
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| No live position, so there is no blue dot to follow | Positioning has not fixed your location yet |
| {Building} has no indoor plan | No floor plan has been drawn for this building |
| The indoor plan doesn't know {room} | The room is not on the plan under that name |
| {Building} has no walking routes mapped yet | No walkable routes have been drawn for this site |
| There's no mapped route to {room} from here | No path exists, for example another floor with no lift on the route |
| Lost your position, so the turn-by-turn stopped | Positioning dropped mid-route |
In every one of these the room and floor are still exact. Only the walk is not measured.
Turn indoor navigation off on your phone
If you would rather the app did not use your position, turn it off in your phone's settings: Settings > Kio Nurse > Disable IPS. The app then lists equipment by room with no blue dot, no distances, and no turn-by-turn. The change takes effect as soon as you return to the app.
Relationship to Asset Tracker
Indoor navigation changes how you get to equipment, not what the app can see. Your asset types, statuses, and locations come from Asset Tracker either way.
