A policy sets what's being monitored - from the locations (campus, building, floor, rooms), devices, the condition being monitored, and the action triggered during a condition excursion. Conditions that can be monitored include Smart Badge and Asset Tag 2 button clicks, device battery levels, when a device enters or exits a location, and Portal Beam measurements including room occupancy, temperature, humidity, and air quality.
Note
Before you create a new policy, be sure there is an action created for the policy - either a Stream, Email, or Text message. A policy cannot be created without an assigned action.
-
From your Kio Cloud Launchpad, select Policy Foundry > from the upper-right corner, select ADD POLICY.
You can either create an entirely new policy (CREATE FROM SCRATCH) or create a new policy based on the profile of an existing policy (CHOOSE BASED ON).
For example, you have an existing policy that generates email actions and you also want to send text message notifications, select CHOOSE BASED ON, and then change the policy's action to a text template.
-
Enter the policy Name and Description. Be sure to provide a name that uniquely identifies the policy.
-
Timing: set the policy schedule.
-
Participating devices: policy can be set for all devices or specific devices.
-
Affected locations (Smart Locations): you can either choose all locations or a specific location.
Locations are based on the parent-child hierarchy rule. If you select a campus, all of its child buildings, floors, and rooms are automatically included. Also, if you select a campus you are limited to only selecting other campuses.
-
Conditions: specify the condition to monitor. When a condition excursion occurs, the policy's action is triggered.

Condition can be set to trigger events when...
Beacon Signals
Battery level: is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, Below or equal
Button Click: either the Default Button (blue button) or Second Button (red button). The policy action is triggered when a button is pressed, resulting in a button-click event.
For button-click events, by default devices are set to a single-click. A device's buttons can also be set to a triple-click to trigger a button-click event.
Telemetry
Temperature: is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, Below or equal
Air quality*: is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, Below or equal
Humidity*: is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, Below or equal
* available in stream actions only
Positions
Exit location: when a device exits a location
Enter location: when a device enters a location
Occupancy
Portal Beam room occupancy mode: is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, Below or equal
-
Actions: assign the action triggered when a condition excursion event occurs. A policy is limited to one action (stream, email, or text).
Select ADD ACTION > from the drop-down list, select an action.
-
Policy coordinator: limits the number of excursion events sent in a specified duration of time. Allows for multiple limiters.
Depending on the use case, you can choose values that are suitable for each policy.
Another useful feature is an aggregator that collects all messages for a specified amount of time and sends them as one message. This is set by setting the message count to greater than 1.
Important
Try to avoid the situation when a condition excursion is active for long periods of time, which would result in continuous notifications. This can also avoid notification fatigue.
An email notification is limited by the system to be sent once a minute.

When all settings are configured, select SAVE AND ACTIVATE.
