A policy sets what's monitored — the locations (campus, building, floor, rooms), the devices, the condition being monitored, and the action taken when the condition is met. You can monitor button clicks on a Smart Badge or Asset Tag 2, device battery levels, a device entering or exiting a location, and Portal Beam measurements including room occupancy, temperature, humidity, and air quality.
Before you begin
- Your administrator grants Policy Foundry access in the Users app.
- An action is created for the policy — a Create a policy stream action, Create a policy email action, or Create a policy text (SMS) message action. A policy can't be created without an assigned action.
Steps
-
Open Policy Foundry from the Kontakt.io Launchpad, then select New policy.
Choose how to start the policy:
- Create from scratch to build a new policy.
- Create based on an existing policy to copy its configuration as a starting point. For example, if you have a policy that sends email notifications and you also want to send text messages, select Create based on, then change the new policy's action to a text message.
Select Next.
Enter the policy Name and Description. Use a name that uniquely identifies the policy.
Timing: set the policy schedule.
Participating devices: set the policy for all devices or specific devices.
-
Affected locations: choose all locations or a specific location.
Locations follow the parent-child hierarchy. If you select a campus, all of its buildings, floors, and rooms are included. When you select a campus, you can only select other campuses.
-
Condition: specify the condition to monitor. When the condition is met, the policy's action is triggered.
Condition Set the condition to trigger when Beacon Signals Battery level is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, or Below or equal a value. Button click — choose the Default (Blue) button or the Second (Red) button. The action triggers when that button is clicked. Telemetry Temperature, Air quality, or Humidity is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, or Below or equal a value. Positions A device exits a location (Exit location) or enters a location (Enter location). Occupancy Room occupancy is Equal, Above, Above or equal, Below, or Below or equal a count. Note: Air quality and humidity may be available only for stream actions. Confirm availability when configuring the condition.
Actions: select the action triggered when the condition is met. A policy is limited to one action (stream, email, or text). Select the action from the Actions dropdown.
-
Policy coordinator: limit how many messages are sent in a given period of time. Select Add limiter, then set the number of Messages and the Duration (seconds, minutes, or hours). You can add more than one limiter.
Choose values that suit each policy.
Important: Avoid configurations where the condition stays met for long periods, which can produce continuous notifications and notification fatigue.
When all settings are configured, select Save and activate. To save without activating, select Save.
