A Portal Light is required to be assigned to its installation location - where it is physically located (the campus, building, floor, and room). Assigning a location is performed when a Portal Light is configured for and connected to the Wi-Fi network and either has never been assigned to its install location or it has been moved to a new location.
Assigning the location is what lets the Kio Cloud Location Engine compute the room-level location of the Kontakt.io tags within range of this Portal Light, so an unassigned Portal Light contributes no room-level data.
Before you begin
- Portal Light is powered on at its install location and connected to Wi-Fi
- Signed in to Kio Setup Manager with the Device Management role. Your role determines which devices you can access — see About user access to Device Management
- Portal Light is claimed in Device Management. See Claim and add devices with your Kontakt.io Order ID
- Smart Location is complete — campus, building, floor, and room are created for the Portal Light install location
- Portal Light network requirements are met and the install location meets the placement guidelines
Important: Installing Portal Lights alongside other Kontakt.io BLE-only Infrastructure devices (Portal Beam, Beam Mini, Anchor Beacon, Dispenser Beacon)? Install the Portal Lights first, then the BLE-only devices.
Steps
These steps start from the Devices tab, for a Portal Light that is already connected and appears in your device list. If you are installing a new Portal Light from the Install tab instead, see Install a Portal Light — the location assignment is part of that workflow.
- Tap Devices in the bottom navigation bar. Optionally, tap Scan to scan the Portal Light's QR code.
- Locate and tap the Portal Light
- Tap Assign to Location.
- Tap Choose Location > select the campus, building, floor, and room. Tap Next to confirm each selection.
- Place the Portal Light at its room location from the floor plan map > tap the Portal Light image > move to its room location > tap Next.
- View the device note > add additional information if needed > tap Next.
- A Success message is displayed when complete > tap Exit.
What happens next
The Portal Light is assigned to its Smart Location room. It appears in Device Management and Smart Location with its location assigned. Device Health monitors it if its Deployment Status is set to Deployed.
