Use the Replace workflow when swapping a Portal Light for a new unit at the same location. Kio Setup Manager transfers the existing location assignment and configuration to the replacement device, so you do not need to reconfigure the location in Kio Cloud after the swap.
Note: The Replace action is available for Portal Light and Portal Light 2 models. It is not available for the Portal Light 2S.
Before you begin
- Signed in to Kio Setup Manager with the Device Management role
- Replacement Portal Light is powered on and claimed in Device Management
- Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password for the network at this location
- The outgoing Portal Light's Unique ID — note it from the label before removing the device, or find it in Device Management
Steps
Find the existing Portal Light in Kio Setup Manager using one of these methods:
- Tap Devices > My Devices, search by name or Unique ID, and tap the device
- Tap Scan and scan the QR code on the outgoing device's label
Tap the actions menu and select Replace Portal Lights.
Alternatively:
- Tap Install in the bottom navigation bar.
- Select Portal Light and choose the model.
- Select Replace existing device.
Scan the QR code on the replacement Portal Light's label, or tap Enter ID manually and type its Unique ID.
Enter the Wi-Fi Network SSID and Password for the replacement device.
Note: If the replacement device has already scanned nearby networks, you can select the SSID from the Available Networks list.
Tap Connect. Kio Setup Manager sends the Wi-Fi credentials to the replacement Portal Light over Bluetooth.
Wait while the replacement device reboots and connects — up to 1–3 minutes. The LED turns solid green when the connection succeeds.
When prompted, configure NTP or tap Skip if standard internet NTP is sufficient.
Review the location assignment. The replacement device inherits the outgoing device's Smart Location room. Confirm it is correct and tap Confirm location.
Tap Complete when the success screen appears.
What happens next
The replacement Portal Light takes over at the existing Smart Location assignment. The outgoing device's record in Device Management is superseded. Device Health resumes monitoring for the new device automatically.
Remove the outgoing Portal Light and update its status in Device Management if needed.
