Access to Kio Nurse Assistant comes from two roles in the Kio Nurse (Mobile) section of the Users app in Kio Cloud, assigned by a user with the User Management Administrator role. A user needs at least one of them to sign in, and the role they hold decides which of the app's two features they can use.
Roles
Assign these in the Kio Nurse (Mobile) section of the Users app.
| To do this in the app | The user needs |
|---|---|
| View their Hand Hygiene activity — personal compliance, streaks, and rewards | Hand Hygiene User |
| Find nearby tracked assets | Asset Tracking User |
A user can hold either or both. Holding both is what produces the mode chooser at sign-in; with one role the app opens straight into that mode.
Roles take effect at the next sign-in. A user who has just been assigned one needs to sign out and back in.
Roles some users already have
Users who hold one of the web roles below may also have been given the matching mobile role during a platform update. The mobile role stays if the web role is later removed:
| If a user holds… | They may also have |
|---|---|
| Hand Hygiene Administrator or User | Hand Hygiene User on Kio Nurse (Mobile) |
| Asset Tracker Administrator or User | Asset Tracking User on Kio Nurse (Mobile) |
This copy isn't made when a web role is assigned, so don't rely on it. Assign the Kio Nurse (Mobile) role directly to everyone who uses the app.
Most nurses who use only the mobile app hold no Hand Hygiene or Asset Tracker web role, so they always need the Kio Nurse (Mobile) role assigned directly.
Unique Ext. ID — required for Hand Hygiene only
Hand Hygiene shows each staff member their own compliance, so the platform has to resolve the signed-in account to a staff profile. It does that by matching the user profile's Unique Ext. ID to the Staff ID in Hand Hygiene. Without that link there is no individual to report on. When the link is missing or incomplete, the app shows Hand Hygiene Account Error followed by a technical message. This happens when the user profile has no Unique Ext. ID, the Unique Ext. ID doesn't match a Staff ID, or the staff profile's Assigned Home Location has no department or campus. A user who holds only the Hand Hygiene User role is then signed back out to the sign-in screen.
Finding equipment has no such requirement. It shows assets, and nothing has to resolve to a person.
So: set a Unique Ext. ID for anyone who will use the Hand Hygiene side. See Link staff profiles to user accounts.
Note: Finding equipment does not need a Unique Ext. ID. A user who holds both roles and has no linked staff profile sees the error on the mode chooser and can still open Find nearby tracked assets.
What else each side depends on
Hand Hygiene — the Journey, Race, and Rewards tabs are always shown; there is no setting that hides Race or Rewards. The data the app shows comes from Hand Hygiene; see About user access to Hand Hygiene.
Finding equipment — asset types, statuses, and locations come from Asset Tracker; see About user access to Asset Tracker. The role grants no access to Device Management or Smart Location, which is why the app shows a tag's ID and model but no battery level.
How roles are assigned
Roles are assigned in the Kio Cloud Users app. For accounts without single sign-on (SSO), a User Management Administrator assigns them directly; for accounts with SSO, roles come from your identity provider.
What a user sees when access is missing
| What they report | Cause |
|---|---|
| "To use the app, you must have at least one role" at sign-in | No Kio Nurse (Mobile) role |
| "Hand Hygiene Account Error", followed by a technical message | The staff profile isn't linked to their user account (no matching Unique Ext. ID), or its Assigned Home Location has no department or campus |
| No Hand Hygiene mode at all, on Android | Expected — the Android app finds equipment only |
