Scheduling a firmware upgrade queues the Kontakt.io Tag or Infrastructure devices you select to receive the next available firmware version over the air, during your Firmware Upgrade Window or immediately. Schedule an upgrade when a new firmware release is available for your devices.
Before you begin
Before you begin, make sure the following are complete:
- You are assigned the Device Management Administrator or Firmware Manager role.
- Managed Firmware Upgrades is turned on and the Firmware Upgrade Window is set. See Set up Managed Firmware Upgrades.
- The devices meet the upgrade requirements. See About Managed Firmware Upgrades.
- You have read the release notes for the version. See About firmware releases.
Schedule the upgrade
From Kio Cloud, go to Device Management.
-
From the Inventory menu, select Tags or Infrastructure.
Tags are devices that move, attached to an object or worn by a person. Infrastructure devices stay in a fixed position, such as Portal Lights, Beams, and Beacons.
-
To upgrade only some devices, set filters to narrow the list. By default, every listed device is selected.
Tip: To evaluate a firmware version before a full rollout, filter to a few devices or to one device model, schedule those, and schedule the rest later.
Select Bulk. Its label shows the number of devices the upgrade applies to: the rows you checked, or every device in the current list if none are checked.
Select Firmware Upgrade.
-
In the Schedule Firmware Upgrade window, choose when the upgrade occurs:
- Next upgrade window: Devices receive the upgrade only during the time periods set in your Firmware Upgrade Window.
- Immediately: Devices are queued to receive the upgrade right away, inside or outside the window.
Caution: Upgrading outside your Firmware Upgrade Window can disrupt service, because a device does not send or receive data while it downloads firmware.
Select Schedule, then Close.
The confirmation shows the result as counts:
- Devices requested: The number of devices you selected.
- Upgrade scheduled: The number of devices scheduled for the upgrade.
- Nothing to upgrade: The number of selected devices with no upgrade available.
- Devices inaccessible: The number of selected devices you can view but cannot schedule, such as devices shared from another account.
To schedule an upgrade for a single device instead, open the device, select its General tab, and select Schedule next to Available Firmware Upgrade.
Scheduled devices show a dark calendar icon in the Scheduled Firmware Upgrade column and drop out of the scheduled filter as they finish. See Firmware columns in Device Management. If the Devices inaccessible count is not zero, or a device stays on its old version after the window, see Troubleshooting: a scheduled firmware upgrade didn't apply.
