A home location — shown as the Assigned Home Location on a user's profile — set the access to a department-level role to the campus and department they have access to in the Kio apps. Set it in the Kio Cloud Users app for every user who holds a department-level role in a Kio app, so they have access to their own department. A department-level role with no home location has nothing to work with.
Home location applies to department-level roles. System-wide roles use campus access instead. Which control applies depends on the role. See User Management roles.
Important: The Assigned Home Location is always set in the Users app, on the user's profile — including for accounts that use single sign-on (SSO). Your identity provider does not set it. Even when an SSO user's identity and roles come from the identity provider, you set their Assigned Home Location directly in the Users app.
Before you begin
- You have the User Management Administrator role.
- The user already has an app role assigned. See Assign roles and access to a user.
- The campuses and departments you will assign already exist in Smart Location.
Assign a home location
- From the Kontakt.io Launchpad, open Users.
- Find and open the user's profile.
- Open the Assigned Home Location setting.
- Select the campus and department for the user's home location. Add more than one campus-and-department pair if their work spans several.
- Save the assignment.
Change or remove a home location
- Open the user's profile in the Users app.
- Open the Assigned Home Location setting.
- Add or edit a campus-and-department pair, or remove one that no longer applies.
- Save your changes.
Result
The user sees only the data for their assigned departments in each Kio app that uses department-level roles — for example, the alerts, history, and reports for those departments. Keep the home location current as people change departments.
