Kio Setup Manager is the Kontakt.io mobile app for on-site device installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. Infrastructure devices — Portal Lights, Portal Beams, Beam Minis, Anchor Beacons, Dispenser Beacons, and Temperature Monitors — must be installed using Kio Setup Manager; the Kio Cloud web portal does not support installation.
Available for iOS and Android, the app connects to Kio Cloud over the internet to retrieve device inventory, Smart Location data, and configurations. It communicates directly with devices over Bluetooth to write configurations, push firmware updates, and read real-time telemetry. Both connections are required for most installation workflows.
Navigating the app
Kio Setup Manager has five main screens accessed from the bottom navigation bar.
Home — A snapshot of device health for devices with a Deployed status. Sign out or view account details from the account icon.
- Gateways — Number of Portal Lights currently online or offline
- Inventory — Total number of deployed devices (Deployment Status set to Deployed)
- Pending — Number of devices with a pending configuration update. In environments without a Portal Light infrastructure, use Telemetry Sync to apply pending updates.
- Battery Levels — Status of device batteries across all deployed battery-powered devices
Devices — Your complete list of Kontakt.io devices.
- Nearby Devices (default view) — Devices within Bluetooth range
- My Devices — Devices you have access to that are not within Bluetooth range
- Search, sort, or filter by model, order ID, pending configuration, or deployment status
Scan — View a device and its available actions by scanning its QR code.
Install — Step-by-step guided installation for infrastructure devices: Portal Light, Portal Beam, Beam Mini, Anchor Beacon, Dispenser Beacon, Temp Monitor Pro, and Temp Monitor Lite.
Tools — Validation and troubleshooting features:
- Location Validation — Validates the real-time physical location of a Tag against its last received location in Kio Cloud
- Telemetry Sync — Synchronizes nearby devices' battery levels and other telemetry data with Kio Cloud over your mobile device's internet connection. Useful for environments without a Portal Light infrastructure or when troubleshooting data delivery
- Beam Troubleshooting — On-site tools for Portal Beam and Beam Mini:
- Portal Beam only: Validate Thermal Image (capture real-time thermal image, view and add Exclusion Zones); Recalibrate Thermal Camera (resets calibration to the installed environment)
- Portal Beam and Beam Mini: Test IR — checks whether the device is correctly transmitting room-level location data via infrared and whether Tags in the space can receive it
- Portal Light Troubleshooting — Generate a Diagnostic Report to check Wi-Fi connection and online status; Collect Logs to share with Kontakt.io Support

How it connects to the platform
Kio Setup Manager uses two connections simultaneously during an installation:
Kio Cloud (internet) — Device inventory, Smart Location data, configurations, and firmware files all live in Kio Cloud; the app must reach it to retrieve and save any changes. A valid Kio Cloud session is required before any installation workflow can begin.
Bluetooth LE (on-site) — The app communicates directly with devices within Bluetooth range, writing Wi-Fi credentials, applying configuration, reading telemetry, and pushing firmware updates. Bluetooth must be enabled on your mobile device, and you must be physically near the target device.
Both connections must be active for installation and configuration. Browsing the cloud inventory requires only internet; reading live telemetry from a device requires Bluetooth as well.
Who uses it and what roles are required
Kio Setup Manager is used by anyone who installs or maintains Kontakt.io hardware — deployment teams, IT staff, and facilities personnel.
To install and manage devices, users must be assigned the Device Management role. Temperature Monitor installation also requires the Device Management Temp Monitor Installer role. Both roles are assigned by a Kio User Management Administrator.
How Kio Setup Manager fits in the Kio platform
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Kio Cloud | Platform administration — Smart Location, Device Management, Users, Company Settings, Entity Manager, and entry point to Kio Apps — Staff Safe, Asset Tracker, Temperature Monitoring, and others |
| Kio Setup Manager | On-site device installation and management (this app) |
Smart Location must be complete in Kio Cloud before Kio Setup Manager can assign devices to locations. Kontakt.io orders must be claimed in Device Management before devices appear in the app's inventory.
